Hi all,

I have:
-MC ProStar 205 1995
-LT-1 310 1:1 13X13 prop

Just Driver, and mirror with very little extra weight in the boat.

can anyone tell me their RPM for 36 MPH so I can confirm my speed is within 1 or 2 MPH.

Thanks,
Greg

Same boat here!

I can get it anywhere from 3200 to 3500. It depends on altitude and air temp. The best way is use a GPS. I have a handheld and I callibrate everytime I go somewhere new or the season change. (Can happen anytime here in the NW) :steering:

very good, for those in the south, I am at 1000 feet + or - 40' and avg temp is around 85 with 40% humidity.

By the way, what is a good GPS to start looking at? or should I just look at parfect pass?

I've got a '94 190 with the LT-1. With the stock 13x13 OJ prop, I get 36mph at 3400 rpm.

Perfect pass is awesome and worth every penny, however unless you have slalom course with timing magnets, you still need a gps to calibrate it exactly. The paddle wheel that is used is not accurate above @ 30 MPH

Unfortunately, with 6.4 digital pro, recalibrating the digital speedo with GPS doesn't carry over to slalom mode. I think they changed that for 6.5.

I use the GPS to get my baseline RPM @ 34 and 36 MPH, then use rpm mode.

West Marine has a very good info section on GPS units in their catalog. I was looking for one a while back this was the best source of info I found.

The only problem with watching RPM is it does not account for additional weight, drag (Bimini) and wind. Speed is speed. I pull into a slight breeze vs with the wind and I get a fairly big change in RPM but my speed is the same. RPM is great as long as your in a vacuum, ha ha. Use the GPS or time a course. I have a Garmin 60CS and it works great for the car, boat and motorcycles.

If you are considering GPS' then definately look at anything garmin. They have an 80 dollar etrex that will do everything that you need for calibrating speed. The magellans can be a little picky. I have an Etrex ledgend with the moving map. I love it for all my outdoor stuff. I think that they are in the $150-200 range now. Well worth every penny.

I set my baselines in the course, check them with the gps, and run rpm mode when free skiing.

I agree with going garmin over Magellan. I had a Magellan for a couple of days and had serious issues even connecting with three satellites. I've had a street pilot colormap and an etrex and both have been trouble free (different uses obviously).

You guys had me curious on the GPS, so a little e bay research revealed the following. I think I see a new toy on the wish list. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34289&item=5786334288&rd=1

Do a search for the Etrex Legend. I believe you can find the with the Street, Topo or Lakes and Waterways (?) CD for around $180-$200. The map cd is around $100 alone. I also belive Target had the package for very little. The legend alone goes now for around $150 and is a nice unit. If you want fun and color with a larger screen go to the 60C.You guys had me curious on the GPS, so a little e bay research revealed the following.
