I have 1983 Mastercraft that I am experiencing a transmission issue with. I dont think the transmission is going bad because it works fine when its cool. But when it gets warm and I push the throttle arm forward into idle, the transmission dont catch and I have to push it forward more causing it to catch hard when it does, and it feels like its dragging an anchor when I drive it and it is throwing fluid out. However, I park the boat for 30 minutes to an hour, fire it back up and everything works properly and it runs smooth as silk. Has anyone had this same issue or know what it might be and how to correct it? Also, Ive been told that where I changed the transmission a few years back to a 1:1 as opposed to the 1.5:1 power slot that was in it, that the prop on it was designed for a power slot and over time may have contributed to this problem. Anyone who can help, please reply. Thanks!

Have you checked your fluid level when warm, did you mean to say that when warm, it is spitting fluid out of the tranny? Where is the fluid leaking from?

I would really recommend finding where you are losing fluid as your first order of business..
I had the same problem with my 1:1, my front seal blew and after replacing it the tranny would do the same thing you are describing.. Make sure your fluid level is good while warm and mine required that I adjust the cable as it was not reaching its marks fully causing a delay for it to engage. good luck

Agreed on the finding where the fluid is coming from as first priority.
As for the RPM's vs Transmission engaging, check the transmission linkage, as it could have very likely backed off / loosened.
I had a similar issue on a '91 and the RPM's would sometimes hit 1500 - 2000 before the transmission engaged........not good.
