My 89 Tristar has an aftermarket fuel sending unit in it. It was in it when I bought it. The previos owner said the OEM unit had a stripped grounding bolt on it , so he replaced it with an aftermarket one. I had the OEM one repaired and would like to put it back in, so I need to know how to access it. The previos owner said the OEM unit is much more accurite. The OEM one has a float. Not sure about the one that is in the boat. Does it matter how much fuel is in the boat? The tank is currently almost on E.

Thanks in advance!

Charlie.

hey I have a 91 Tristar and the fuel tank is between the driver and observers seat, it has an access panel in front of the access for your bilge plug. I replaced my sending unit about a month ago and had over a half tank, so you should be ok with it almost on E.. good luck

It doesn't make any difference how much gas is in the tank when you replace the sending unit, just as long as the sending unit is calibrated (Set/Adjusted) for the tank it's going into. If the old repaired one still won't operate properly, replace it with a new one for it to read correctly throughout the gauge and tank.
