I am a new owner of my first Mastercraft and was wanting to know the proper way to start these older boats. I have a 88' PS 190. I have heard numerous diferent ways, but I want it from the experts out there and I thought no beter place to ask then on this site. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the board. Here is how I start my '88.
When cold I give it two full pumps of the throttle then return to neutral and pull the safety pin. I then crank the boat. If it doesn't fire in a couple of seconds I open the throttle just a bit (pin is still out) and try again. Usually fires up first time but if it has been a while just a bit of throttle is required. Once the idle smooths out I return to neutral and let it idle for a couple of minutes, then idle speed only until it wrms up to operating temperature.
After the boat has warmed up I just have to turn the key and it fires right up.

welcome to the site , congrats on buying your first mastercraft you wont regret it,
although as you say old if you look at the hours on the boat rather than the year it was built you will find its not that old really, on the subject of starting many i drive and mine also i usually give them a couple of blasts with the throttle and leave the throttle a couple of degrees on prior to turning over, make sure the throttle shift button is pulled out first and turn key mine starts virtually straight away, others after a second or two.You should only have to do this when engine is cold, if its warm or been run i usually just turn the key and she fires up.
mine is the same age with 600 hrs on it runs like a dream.
i think we all get into a routine of starting the boat then you just stick to it.
good luck with the new boat

Welcome.
What these guys said. I'd run the blower for at least a few minutes before you crank. In a warm climate, you shouldn't have to prime it after the first crank of the day.

Forgot that part. I always run the blower while I am prepping the boat for launch.
