Now that I have your attention. What wax is best? I hate to wax the boat but it must be done so what is the easiest and most beneficial?

Any wax your boat for free pull takers? did not think so

I would much rather ride than wax. Aaarg

Name it for free beer, virtual that is.

Thanks in advance...

Try Eagle One "Wax as you dry". We spray it on while the boat is still wet (after we finish skiing) then wipe the boat down. It probably doesn't last as long as the harder to apply waxes but it does work and is very easy to use. I've got lots of practice... my PS197 is ALL black and every water spot shows up!

THe thing that made the biggest difference in waxing for me is a orbital polisher. Bought a cheap one at Meijer for $30 and it works so well.

I have a friend that has less than optimal funds who I make help me wax for pulls. Does a good job too. That, and wax as you dry every other time I go out.

Yes the black boats are tougher to keep water spots off of, but they look soo good.

I have a good idea of who you are talking about DJHuff. Maybe I'll try to give him a pull next week and get some waxing help. It is time to do mine again.

to get water spots off before waxing, try spray bottle with mix of vinegar and water - might have to rub with soft cloth. rinse and dry.

i use Collinite's Fiberglass Boat Wax - it's very hard to find, but really holds up well. shines up the gel coat like crazy - everyone always comments that my boat looks new....

if you want to keep glass clean, try rain-x on it as well. holds down the spotting.

i am too anal about this boat. oh well, sure looks nice....

there is a polish called rejex made by http://corrosionx.com. It is extremly good. It needs 12 hours after application to stay dry and under 85 degrees. Your boat will wipe down easier and colors will be deeper. This polish gets quite a bit of press on the Porche forums. It can be used on metel, fiberglass, and glass. I use it on my Jeep and boat.

My 02 Maristar 210 is black just above and below the rubrail and I too hate the water spots. I have ordered and tried several different waxes, both synthetic and carnaubas. This spring I did a side by side comparison of 5 waxes. One of the carnaubas was Collinite Fleetwax Paste, a liquid carnauba, and 3 synthetics. The winner with the richest deepest gloss was a synthetic was made by TransTech Services. Local body shops have used it for years on cars, but it is also designed to be used on gelcoats. Three coats, 12 hours between coats in the spring, and I am good for the whole summer, even using water spot removers. Also it is very easy to apply and buff off.

I have been a huge fan of the Zaino Bros. line of products for about 6 years now, but financially, it might not be so feasible to do boats with, but if you have the means, they would be my suggestion.

Otherwise I would also recommed the 3M line of products. Rubbing compound, cleaner wax and finishing wax work wonders to bringing back shine to the hull.
I had some serious oxidation from last season on the one side of the boat, took out the high-speed wheel and began with the rubbing compound, then the cleaner wax, then 2 coats of the finishing wax. Looks almost new, but the boat is several years old.

Once the first few coats have been done, then rest go real easy.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll see what products I can find and continue on from there once the temperature falls below 90. It is too hot to wax right now.

BTW You have to love that free virtual beer don't you? No hangovers and your wife is still speaking to you. :headbang:

Every time I use vinegar and water it takes off the wax.

Anyone ever tried any of the Rain-X wax products on a boat.

I have been using Star Brite fiberglass color restorer with Dupont Teflon.
Very easy to use, and fast!
It is mild and not abrasive and removes oxidation if you have it and won't harm your gelcoat.
Just used it last weekend while the boat was on the lift and it took less than an hour.
I also have had great results with the Meguiars products.

Maguiers #26 high tech yellow wax, and Maguiers detailer spray between waxings. That wax has no cleaners, so if there's any oxidation etc. you'll need something w/ a cleaner.

Mitch have you found a local source for the Collinite Paste here in New England, sounds like better stuff than Meguiar's because it is pure CARNUBA WAX, without all that other STUFF!!! http://www.collinite.com/marine.htm#paste
