I have an 01 Xstar with the LTR330 motor. The boat ran fine yesterday until a friend of mine started pulling me for a quick run behind the boat. I'm not sure what he did, but when he turned the key to start the boat, the key got stuck in the start position (all the way to the right to initiate the starter motor). When the boat is in neutral, the starter gear is grinding. I think the problem is in the key ignition mechanism. How can I get to this to pull it out?

I would just put in a new one. You can get the part from Skidim (like the picture below) for about $18.00...or you could order one from your local MC dealer.

any tips on how to get in there to replace it? I'm assuming I'd have to take the dash out. What do you think?

Was just working on the gauges and ignition switch on my 01 X5 the other day. It's real easy to get in there. There are a couple of pop-up fasteners on top of the instrument cluster by the windshield and a couple of screws at the bottom on either side of the steering wheel. Voila! The whole cluster panel just lifts up.
