I just purchased an 00 maristar 230 with the vortec engine. it has 210 hours on it, It runs like a champ but it makes this high pitch almost turbine like noise... is this normal?

Which engine do you have, the LTR (Multiport EFI) ot the TBI (Throttle body EFI). Some of the LTR engines made a noise like that and it is normal. The TBI generally didn't make any unusual noises. They both "whine" a little in reverse if you have a 1:1 transmission.

It is a multiport injection.
