Who is planning on coming to the Don Pedro get together in July?

The dates are July 30 & 31 (sat & sun). We will be meeting at Moccasin Point I believe. There is camping and hotels available in the area. Or just come for the day. :)

Glad to hear that you will be joining us.

I thought the Government was the force behind closing down Berryessa. Is Pleasure Cove open again?
We boat at Berryessa all the time. We put in at Markley and love our quiet side of the lake. Maybe we can hook up. :)

I hate hang'n out in the camp grounds during the day so in the morning I toss the wife, the kid and the dog in the boat and the all day stuff and we beach it in the no wake zone(great place for our rc boats) for most of the day.Hopefully we will be able to get our 8yr old up on ski's this year.
Here's the web address that explains the both sides .http://www.usbr.gov/mp/berryessa/index.html

The weather is supposed to be in the 90's by then. Should be just about right. As of last night the water temp was 78.

Are you planning on coming to Don Pedro?

Hey everyone...just got back from a week at Trinity Lake. I'm glad to see the interest is gaining momentum for the get together on the 30th and 31st at Don Pedro!

We're going to have guests with us so we'll probably only be out on the water on the 30th. Let's keep the thread active, especially as we get closer to the date so we can figure out a time and place to meet on the lake. We were there a couple of weeks ago and the waterfall looks great behind Pig Island.

I'll be out there this weekend and off and on during the next week. Worried about parking since the lake level is so high. Much of the parking at Moccasin is under water.

RackAtak - Will you be giving us an update of the lake and parking after you head that way?

Calif_BobPerry - Did you call about camping reservations yet? Do you have any info to share?

So far I think the count is 6-7 boats. Lots of adults and kids too. :)

I will update on the parking situation at Moccasin after this weekend. I am not really worried about the 30th and 31st because it is not a holiday weekend.

Due to the holiday and the fireworks show, this weekend will be a challenge with the high water and subsequent flooding of probably 100 spaces near the ramp on what used to be a dirt parking lot.

At this point I am planning on spending at least one of the days at the get together. As stated in the West Coast Reunion thread, it depends on the outcome of my sons baseball schedule as he will be in the middle of his All Star tournaments. I definately would like to get the boat out that weekend, as we will then be heading to Tahoe for a two week ski vacation.

The lake is full, topped out. Very nice. Parking on Saturday July 2nd was tight but they made sure to find everyone a space. I had to walk a ways back to the dock after parking, but it was fine. I bummed a ride from the park supervisor back to my truck in the afternoon. It was an absolute zoo on the water and at the ramp due to the holiday weekend boaters. Without a doubt, it will be much, much better on the 30th.

Where should we all meet? LDP is a big lake with boat ramps on the east and west ends of the lake. We will be putting in at Moccasin, but not shure at this time where we will be during the day. We will be staying in a motel either in Sonora or Groveland, so either of these are close to the east end of the lake.

Any suggestions?

jmyers - I did a search and came up with this number for camping reservations at Moccassin Point. 559-852-2396. I am not sure how many are planning on camping there. My family and I will be staying in Angels Camp which I guess is not to far from there.

ricks - I also would like to know where to meet. I have never been there. Guess we will have to wait for RackAtak or someone else familiar with the lake to chime in. I know that we will be putting in at Moccassin Point but not much beyond that. It would probably be easier on everyones nerves to put in at their own pace and head to a meeting location.

At this point, let's plan on meeting up on Saturday, July 30th at the 5mph zone in the Woods Creek Arm. I anchored for lunch there the past two days and it was very nice. After we meet up there we can always caraboat (caravan) over to the Pig Island party spot.

Directions-When you put in at Moccasin exit the 5mph zone. After exiting the 5mph zone veer left and go under the first bridge. Continue straight up through the open water. After approx one mile there will be another bridge on your left. DO NOT GO UNDER THE SECOND BRIDGE. Contiune straight and you will be in the Woods Creek Arm. Continue to the top of the arm to the 5mph zone. Lets meet on the left hand side of the 5mph zone just past the bouys. How about we meet between 10:30 and noon? Sound ok? Mine will be a Blue and White ProStar with a Monster Tower. look at my gallery for pics. I'll try to be there early. See you then! :headbang:

Looks like this is the place to be that weekend. My wife, two kids, her sister, kids, and I will fill up our 2004 Black and White Prostar 209 and look to meet folks. We might head up early Thursday and stay until Sunday since our kids have Thursday and Friday out of preschool. Regardless we will be there Friday night through Sunday.

We normally head to New Melones (closest to Angles Camp), but will camp this time somewhere at Don Pedro. It's been a few years since I've been there and I remember multiple camp grounds and shore camping. Probably won't do the shore and want to find the camping spot that is more wider open than the last place we stayed. Seemed like some of the camping is right on top of each other. Need to look it up in the lake book and internet.

Another MC can't hurt :) Also, saw someones pic from Trinity doing some wake surfing. We will be giving it a try as well. Think our record is two beers tossed from the boat to the surfer without falling ;)

I am in the same boat as MasterMason. My son's 11 year old all star team won their District 14 Championship last Friday. They started the Sectional Tournament in San Ramon on Tuesday and won their 1st game in this tournament. They are currently 5-0 and have not been challenged by any team yet. They play again tonight against a team from Danville and then again this Saturday. If they win the Sectional Championship, they move on to the Divisional Tournament, which will conflict with the Reunion. We won't know until Tuesday how this current tournament will turn out, but I will keep our status for the reunioin updated as we get closer to the date.

RackAtak,

You hit it right!! It is always a Rush, Rush, Rush!!! I actually feel bad for my son as he has had only 3 days off so far on his summer vacation. His All Star team has held double day practices everyday that they don't have games. In addition to his all star team, he starts practices for his Fall Ball league this Friday. We are taking a vacation in two weeks, but short of our Two (2) weeks in Tahoe in early August, he will not have really experienced a summer vacation as we used to have when we grew up.

there will be four of us too (plus the dog), unless we bring another family, in which case we won't bring the pooch. We are going to be staying in a hotel, not camping, either in Sonora or Groveland. I kind of favor Sonora as then we don't have to pull the boat "up the big hill". The hotel in Sonora however, is not quite as fun, but as a place to crash it works pretty well.

Seems to be pretty common on the lakes of Northern CA. We were out on Berryessa the other night and after the last run of the evening the air was 82 and the water was 88. Like taking a bath almost. Hit it so I can get out of this water and cool off. :D :D Sorry for the thread jack.

I know that we have had some people that are new to the board on here from Northern California, like my fellow Vacaville resident Maha Skier. If you guys are free next weekend please join us for a day on Don Pedro.

More good water than bad and there were alot of boats out. Taught one of my son's friends to wakeboard. There were some periods where the tubers chopped up the water pretty bad but the good thing about the Woods Creek Arm is that it flattens out quickly. My wife even got some skiing in and she is very particular about her skiing water! :eek3:

The family I were out at Don Pedro yesterday and the water conditions were great all day. We actually skied and wakeboarded the majority of the day without a lot of chop. We were in the area where the slalom coarse for the Don Pedro Waterski Club is located. The conditions should be good for this weekends reunion.

By the way, we are planning on attending as my sons baseball team has been eliminated from the sectional tournament.

How far would you estimate that Standard Road is from the camping? I found it on the map and it looks like you can take Jacksonville Rd to Campo Seco Rd and then to 108 on the way to Standard. What would you estimate the travel time given the type of road?

Depending on how hot it is near the end of the day, we might drink dinner in the brewery (if air conditioned) and then come back after sunset for the camping.

See those in the Moccasian loop. We will be there by noon on Friday and on the water as quickly as possible after that.

follow 108 thru Manteca then follow 120 towards yosemite. 120 meets 49 then you will see the lake on the left. There will be signs to Moccassin Flat campground (& boat ramp), which will be a left turn. If you start going up the Big Hill (toward Groveland) you've gone too far.

Rick S. - I'm not sure about where we will in the afternoon. How late are you planning on getting up there? Since you gave Calif.BobPerry directions I am assuming you have been there before and are familiar with where we are meeting in the morning. I would suggest that you start looking for us there. I am also not sure if we will be staying as a group or splitting off. If we stay as a group we shouldn't be to hard to miss. Maybe RackAtak will have a better idea of the afternoon itinerary. Hope this helps. :)

X2momma - Will be leaving San Ramon at 1pm, expect to hit the lake about 3:30. Will probably hang out in the upper part of the lake that afternoon/evening unless choppy water forces us west thru the canyon and into the main body of the lake.

Look for all on Saturday.

:headbang:

If you have been there before you will hopefully understand where this is. We are also heading up tomorrow evening but will be staying in Angels Camp and not camping. Planning on putting in somewhat early on Sat. morning. If you are out early too we will be in the pro tour red 2005 X2. :)

Rod
Standard Road is about 25 to 30 minutes from Moccasin. From the campground, go north on 49 to 108. East on 108 about 15 minutes to Standard Road.

For those coming in MAKE SURE YOU PASS THE "WEST SHORE DON PEDRO SIGN" MOCCASIN POINT IS ON THE EAST SHORE and it is the same turn you take to go to Yosemite. It is a 17 or so mile boat ride from the West shore to the East shore. If everyone follows my directions from Moccasin the Woods Creek Arm is very easy to find. If anyone needs any additional info PM me and I will give you my phone number in Sonora. I am leaving about 7:00pm tonight for Sonora and will be around all day Friday to help with directions etc if needed. I am planning on being on the water by 10:00am Saturday...See you on the lake

We are ready,we are leaving home around 7-730a and should arrive at the lake around 930-10. Were going to stay at the Sonora Oaks Hotel Saturday night. I wanted to know is there a safe place to leave our boat and trailer at the lake or maybe the camp sites are large enough someone might let us keep it there for the night, that way we don't have to lug it to the Hotel and then we could get back on the water for an early Sunday morning ski.

Thanks,
Bob

Moccasin Point does have a large marina and they might rent slips. I suggest you ask the ranger when you check in. See you saturday!

We are at the Sonora Oaks too, and we've drug the boat back and forth lake/hotel/lake in the past. Not that big of a deal. We've been at the hotel before with boats, you have to be a little creative regarding boat parking, but it's doable. I don't leave my boat at the lake, at least on a trailer, overnight as a buddy of mine had his boat vandalized at Melones a year and a half ago.

I will seriously consider however renting a slip for the night at the marina...that's a great idea.

We met Rack and his family at Moccasin boat ramp(very nice family). We were on our way to the meeting point and decided to take a quick ride down through the "no ski zone".After turning around and heading back I let our son drive, while sitting in the rear with my wife our boat did a rumble rumble shake then smoothed out and then ka-bang,it sounded like the boat hit something in the water. We dropped anchor and I jumped in and looked at the prop and it seemed fine but it was resting against the rudder.I was able to push the prop and shaft back and forth.Well after sitting dead in the water and flagging down 3 boats who did'nt seem to want to tow us in,one guy said they had to many people in there boat(never heard that excuse before). Finally after an hour of waiting the Sheriff came by and for the next hour and a quarter we relaxed as they towed us back to the ramp where we met Rack on his way home.I hope all you guys had a great time and maybe we can do it again so I can meet everyone.I'll let ya know what happened to the boat as soon as I take a look.

It was good to see you guys Saturday. Five boats showed although Bob broke before he was able to meet up with us! Hey Jeff...sorry about the offer to pull and then not getting back but I had a bunch of kids itching to board and I saw Rod give you a pull anyway. All in all it was a good few hours and hopefully there will be some more pictures up soon. Let's try a second annual next July...same weekend.

Well the Pedro get together was fun, nice to meet everyone. I was doing fine until I ran out of gas around the corner from Moccasin, it dosen't help that we were real low on gas, and I was pulling a wakeboard with completely full ballast tanks. We were able to Idle in to a closed gas dock, where we took a short pull to the ramp from a MC owner just to make sure I could pull it on the trailer! And then when I got home I noticed a note on the windshield that had a name and phone # that said (I hit your trailer call me for insurance info). SORRY! Got to love boating!

As you all know we were going to get a mid-day start to drive up to the lake on Saturday. Saturday morning my oldest son scratched his right cornea in two places, not that serious, but took him to our Urgent Care provider who put on an eye patch to wear for 24 hours + a prescription for antibiotic eye drops. We thought it best not to come to the lake, as it was not a good idea to get him in the water, plus his eye is still very light-sensitive.

Wish we could have made it. Spent sunday digging a 20 foot ditch in hard clay soil to replace a drain line in the back yard in 95 to 100 degree heat. That was really fun.

It was very nice to meet you guys on Saturday. Now I can match faces with screen names. I hope. You all have beautiful boats!

Calif_BobPerry and Rick S. - Sorry to hear about the troubles that kept you from coming. A speedy recovery to your son Rick. :) And hopefully a not to expensive fix for you Bob. :)

Getting together next year sounds like a good plan. How about if we try and find a place to meet that is more centrally located to everyone next time. Maybe that way it would be easier for more people to attend. Just a thought.

I thought I would have pictures to post. They seem to have disappeared off the camera. :o Sorry guys.

Hey everyone. Thanks for putting this weekend together. It was great meeting everyone. Sorry to hear about the broken boats and ramp issues (Don Pedro parking is terrible surprised more folks don't have trailer accidents). I have lots of pictures, but need to shrink them down to size. Good picture Rak. As soon as I get them small I'll send them up.

There were lots and lots of MC boats on the lake that weekend that didn't have a clue we were getting together. Need to find a way to get folks together that don't watch the web.

Maybe next year we would have 20 or more.

Hi guys, Wife and I are planning a trip next summer to the states. If you are organized in over the winter we would love to join everyone for a weekend. With the Supra going to be retired and the purchess of a new MC, we are going to take a month off and do some touring around. Thats if i dont have to take a loan out for the fuel. We look forward to spending some time with fellow MC owners and doing some lake side activities.
(loly Pops) Keep us informed, look forward to next summer.
Winter ski season is only 2 months away for us.

Hey Rod,
After looking at your pictures and talking with Rack(at the boat ramp) you guys must a had a great time. When we arrived at the lake instead of turning at the bridge to meet you guys we wanted to take a little ride down through "no ski zone' and almost to the end, there was a cove with alittle island where people were anchored(thats were we broke down) but no one want to tow us back that far. After being achored for more than an hour, finally help arrived(a picture tells a thousand words how our day went).Whats ironic is the only reason the Sheriff went down that channel that far is they had a call that people were jumping off the bridge why they went a mile or so past the bridge we'll never know..fate I guess. All in all we had a good time we spent the night in Sonora had a good dinner and a great walk around old town.
