Im buying a Pneumatic Stapler to use to put my new skins back on my seats for my Boat.

The one Im looking at, I can get 3/8" x 3/8" stainless staples,

Do you guys think that is deep enough for the Vinyl to stay attached?

I would say as long as it buries the staples you should be fine. I want to say that I used 3/8 when I put my skins back on my 30th 190 because that was the only stainless staples they had at sLowes when I bought staples.

I am using 3/8 as we speak. You may have to use a hammer to make them go in all the way, or adjust your air pressure. I am using a hand stapler.

I had exactly the same experience (3/8 SS staples with hand held stapler, followed by a hammer). It would be nice if the Pneumatic Stapler drove staples in far enough to avoid using the hammer.

5280Hawk: Let us know how it goes - I'd consider picking one up if it works well.

You bet,

Im getting the Stapler from McMaster-Carr for $49.00

I really just want the Skins to hurry up and get here from Copycat covers.

They're Supposed to ship the first week of June. any longer than that and i may have to change set boating trip plans and i will be PO'd beyond belief.

I don't have them back yet, but i would not send them right now. I think they are really back logged, so your boat will be out of commission for 4-6 weeks, right now. the actual time it takes them to complete the work is only about a week though.

I have had mine out since late April, but they are coming back next week.

New problem - I ordered the staples (not the gun yet) and they say right on the box "Not for Marine Applications" They are T-50 staples, just like the ones used in manual staplers, just stainless.

I think I have to re-think my stapler.....

I used an $11 Stanley Stapler with 3/8" stainless arrow staples on my old MC observer seat and it worked like a charm. Just push hard.

Insert joke here.

I picked up a craftsman hand stapler this weekend, and it works much better than the arrow, but the t-50 stainless staples are getting harder to find.

Im sure you guys are right, and the T-50's would be fine but i got freaked out by the Label on the Arrow staples, saying not for Marine applications.

I ended up buying a Porter Cable pneumatic Upholstery stapler, and 22 guage SS wire staples that go with it. Cost me $130.00. I may try to sell the stapler once im done with the project, try to recoup some funds.....

I have a box of 1000 SS Arrow T-50's if you really can't find them....:D

I redid my interior and used 3/8" Arrow SS with an electric stapler. No problem.

I've never used these nor have I installed upholstery, but they do make plastic staples. I hang out in an old wood boat forum and they are using these to build boats using a cold mold technique. They speak highly of them and that may be an alternative to stainless. They are very strong and they are shooting them out of their pneumatic guns. Just a thought...

if you still have the receipt, take that one back in the new packaging, and go EBay one. Plenty of upholstery staplers out there, air and electric, and a used one would be fine (better, even, since as soon as you use it, it's used!). Then throw it back on EBay and save yourself some cash...just my $0.02 worth.

Well I got started with reupholstering my seats over the weekend. I have to say it went really well. I really like the quality of the vinyl and the little porter cable stapler is a life saver!

I had to get a little creative for the sundeck pieces. The underside had some type of fabric liner. With the mc logo stenciled on it. It protected the alumnum deck And also concealed it. Copy Cat didn't provide anything to replace it. So I went to a fabric store and bought some "Duck" outdoor canvas in light grey. It did the trick just fine.
