I hate the way the iPod hook up sounds on the current system for the 2002 Xstar. Wanna switch it out with something that has an actual iPod input not just and outlet on the front. Just want something that will have the same size remote for drivers side I know Sony makes one that is bigger than the clarion. Any help would be great.

I upgraded my 2001 Clarion XMD1 source unit for a new Clarion CMD6. It has USB input on the rear with an extension cord so I can plug a flash drive or an IPOD and I just leave it in the driver side console. I really like the deck and now they are quite reasonably priced. The 16 GB flash drives are so cheap now that it's tough to beat for cheap storage and it holds a lot of music. I just leave it in the boat and I tuck it up in the side panel behind the throttle leaver. No worries if anyone forgets to bring their ipod.

Regards.

I already have a full exile set up with amps and speakers so happy with the output from them. Just need a head unit to control everything and like having the control unit or wired remote on the drivers side. What do you guys think about this unit.

Dont know where you get your figures, but every Alpine Marine unit I see on thier site states "18Wx4 RMS power / 50Wx4 Max power" as the power rating

Isnt that what the clarion has?

Dont get me wrong, id rather Alpine over clarion any day and am seriously considering the upgrade as well.

pretty sure tx is referring to voltage on the pre-outs, not the rated specs of the internal amplifier...

Figured that but both alpine and clarion have 2 volt pre amps.

Thanks Bruce and sorry I was not clear there but yes at the rca outs. It was night and day sound wise for my set-up.
