Got a '79 SNS with a 351 PCM with a 1:1 VelvetDrive transmission and wanted to know if someone could confirm what fluid to use? I have heard its Dexron III. It needs flushing but I need to know for sure.

Thanks.

I use dexron III in my C71 1:1 as well.

The Borg Warner Velvet Drive transmission manual and the 1994 MC manual both recommend Dextron type II for 1:1 and Power Slot transmissions.

As I recall the oil I am using is a Penzoil version that claims to meet the requirements for both Type II and Type III.

You can also use mercon compatible too.

How often to flush, once every two years at the longest. It is less than 2 quarts, so once a year isn't going to break the bank.

I use type F on my Velvet 1:1 Don't recall what research I did to determine that. The Dexron type II that the manuals call for isn't made anymore, I believe.

Dexron III replaced Dexron II. Fluids claiming Dexron III type performance continue to be sold under abbreviated names such as Dex/Merc and D/M.
