Engine Box

My 91 Prostar has the factory foam liner in the engine box, and needs to be removed/replaced. Is this liner for heat or noise or? What have you guys used to replace it and where can I get it. Thanks for your help, if this has been addressed befor could you post link.

Thank you very much, I've needed to fix it for a few years and kept putting it off, it will get fixed this year. Thanks
