View Full Version : Finally got the thing fixed

Yesterday was the final day of putting my motor back together. After pulling the head, I could see what was causing my over heating issue. The front cooling passage on the gasket had blown out a bit, causing the coolant (water) flow through the head and block to become disrupted, overheating two cylinders on each bank. (glad I have a buddy who is a ford specialist (used to build for Ford Racing). I would have never picked it out.
It was hard to spot to me, but he knew what it was when I was just talking about it, and what I have done/replaced. sure enough, he was right. These Fords cooling systems are way different then what I am used to on GM SBC's.

I am just glad we got it working and I can start enjoying my boat again. we set the timing to 10* BTDC, then took it out for a spin... it had 36* at WOT, and about 27* by 2700 rpm. She ran good, strong as ever.

yes, very happy to have my boat back. my next item to tackle is to get a warning light and place it in the dash and hook it up to my temp buzzer (which sucks btw) so, if anything should happen I will have a light going off in my face.
