I am looking to find a training boom for the soon to be acquired 2000 PS 205. I found the Barefoot International booms but am not sure if I need the contour boom or straight boom, since I don't have the boat yet I can't measure it to confirm.
Which do I need? Also if anyone has a used unit they want to part with let me know, best price I found so far is $469 (for the contour boom).
Thanks
Jeff (Atlanta)

Are you going to be Footin off it? Are you going to eventually get a tower?

I think eventually someone might be footin off it but it won't likely be me. I want to use it to teach my 10 yr old and his friends to ski and will probably want to use it for young adults to learn to ski on it as well, so it needs to handle up to 200 lbs?
No current plans for a tower. Maybe some day, but I am resistant to the notion.

I got a single contour BI boom for my 94' 205. Works great for kids. I think I spent about $250 used.

I have been looking for a used one but have come up empty so far. Ebay did not list any as of yesterday and nothing on craigslist here in Atlanta.
Thanks for the help.

Hank, My kids learned well before 10 with no boom. We started with the kneeboard then moved to the wakeboard and the ski's. You might find with your daughter she might be more comfortable with someone next to her. To this day my 11yo daughter won't go in the water alone. however check out skiitagain.com they have a few used booms.

I ordered from The footers Edge and installed it last weekend. I had 5 late 19 to 21 year olds on the boat and the ones that had never skied and used the boom did awesome. I was able to immediately get them up, graduate to a short line and then to the long line behind the boat.
There was an interesting dynamic as no one wanted to start on the boom, I guess they thought it was less manly, but when they failed behind the boat they came to the realization that the boom could help them. I will not understand the teenage mind (even though I once had one) in not wanting to do it the right way from the start but the ones that gave it go and were willing to be coached up were successful.
The next time I will insist that they use the boom first until I know they can ski/wakeboard it will give us more time skiing/wakeboarding and less time farting around trying to ski.
My 10 year old on the other hand can't wait for his turn to learn though.

That's great! You will find that getting a boom for your boat to teach youngsters to ski is the best money you can put into your boat. I got my daughter up on skis on the boom a month before her 4th birthday and have taught countless others to ski and foot on it. Even the price of a new boom is cheap compared to what it adds to your boat and your experience teaching kids to ski. Good luck!
