Guys, I was wondering what your opinion is for the best model Mastercraft for Footn. I'm looking to upgrade to a new or late model Mastercraft. I'll use it primarily for footn, but let my wife ski behind it in the afternoon when the water gets choppy :). The guys at my lake tell me the 197 is the boat of choice for the flat table and the curl, but I'd like some other opinions before I do some test runs. Also what are your engine option opinions. Thanks for your help.

I have not footed behind a 197, but a buddy of mine that competes just got a 2005 -197 for this purpose. I think most of the tourneys use other makes like Sanger or Malibu, but since he is a MC freak he ordered the 197 to suit his needs. I do not know what engine he has in it.

Mastercraft should put this plate on the 197. This is a picture of the Malibu barerfoot boat that is now tournament approved. Plate pushes down the massive wake of the inboard. It’s pretty slick. I still think the Barefoot200 & Powerstar200 have a nicer wake and faster acceleration.

I run a 2005 197 with the 350hp MCX, and it is great. Stay with a 90 ft. line and the wake crossings are smooth and prop wash is minimal. The top end is 43-44mph, but it holds it very well even with a footer tug on it. My previous boat, an 02 197 was great for footin, but it had the 310hp and tended to get pulled down a bit on planting and had problems holding speed above 39mph on one foots.

i have an 04 X9 that i foot behind,,,the curl is lovely for doing tricks in ,but the wake is not the easiest to cross,,,i did not find much diff.between it and my pals X7 at footin speeds.....i will say tho' ,that IMO you cant beat a late b'foot 200....... :twocents:

The Mastercraft Barefoot 200 is in my opinion the best barefoot boat out there. It has incredible acceleration, 60+ top end speed, plenty of interior room, etc. They are available on the used market for $10-15k
However, if you are looking for a late model inboard, the guys above have given you some good choices.

Thanks, guys, for the advice. While i'd like an outboard, the wife is thinking inboard. I ski behind a flightcraft at the club, and know that is a sweet wake, proably similar to the 200. Anyone know what the wake plates cost? Is it a mastercraft thing, or a aftermarket thing?
Thanks

you can get a bennet wake-tab, it's just a big single trim tab like you'd see on and outboard or I/O. It'd serve the same function as the non-adjustable tab below, but it could actually be adjusted to make the wake larger or smaller, similar to the tige t.a.p.s. system (actually it's exactly the same).
I tried to find you a link but bennett's website doesn't really talk about the "wake" tabs for comp boats. But there is usually an ad in waterski and wakeboard magazines.

Wake plate in the above picture was a prototype on the Malibu boat. It is something Ron Scarpa and Malibu boats worked on. I don’t know of an aftermarket product but im sure you can find one. Call Scarpa or better yet, call Mastercraft and ask them what they are doing to address the issue. I would almost bet they are working on something.

most of the larger powerboats have hydraulic trim tabs,to help them plane better....surely this could be adapted for barefootin and be controlled remotely by the driver????

I thought they offered the plate.

The X45 has a single trim tab on it that is controlled by the driver, so MC does have it available, they just haven't put it on anything else...... YET!

The bennet wake tab is available from overtons. Its only available from their website. Type "wake tab" in the search box and the site should bring you to it. :wavey:

One problem with the tab is that it will reduce your top end (since you're pushing the nose of your boat down with it). I had one on my old Supra Comp. It created an awsome slalom wake, but also took away enough top end that it wasn't the favorable barefoot boat amongst my group.
But - that was on a carb 351, not an MCX. Just be aware of the possible negative side effect.

No, sorry. Opinions vary.
Flightcraft was one of our options when shopping for a Tournament boat. Quality was no where near MC.
