My guess has always been since that is where it is the most structural solid ...... also many tower designs when folder are resting against fiberglass or cushions which will get damaged with the regular "bouncing" of driving down the road ....

The consensus is also to not have anything in your board racks while towing as well ..... wind resistance at highways speeds could cause your boards to show you how much "air" they can really get ...

If you have speakers .... it is highly encouraged to let the bugs smack into the "cans" and leave their nasty speaker hating a$$e$ on the speaker can .... ;)

tower up!

This is the first time I have had a boat with a tower on it. When I pulled it home the first time I had the tower down and no cover on it. The previous owner had made a "rack" that tower would rest on and then had tied down so that it wouldn't bounce and it wouldn't ride on the rails on the bow. When I got home it was dark and just backed it in the garage. Cleaned her up the next day, just thought it was road gunk on her from the trip. Well when I pulled her to the lake the first time a couple of weeks ago I left the tower down. When I got to the lake I noticed that the interior was all dirty again. This time it was with diesel exhaust, my truck is a diesel. So I have decided that I will have to pull her with the tower up and the cover on all of the time, unless I want to clean the interior everytime before I put it the water.

With the tower down, it is the least structurally sound with only two of the four attachment points holding it on. IMHO it doesn't sound like a good idea to tow with your tower down.

tower up for sure, otherwise you'll have scratches from tower legs bouncing around.

another vote for towing with the tower up. Always seemed the most structurally sound to me. I don't have too far to tow so the bugs on the speaker cans hasn't been too big a problem in the past...

Invest in a set of speaker socks,They work great.I tow with the tower up and stay at 45mph not any higher.

I've always towed with the tower up, for all the reasons everybody else has already stated.

MagRed - Looks like the idiot pictured needs some driving lessons 101 on towing a boat. Either that or stop tailgating people:D

Sweet

Yukon trailers the '98 190 at 60mph (speed limit) on backroads (considered the main road) to our local Lake. Turns everywhere, people pulling out in front of you, slamming on the brakes, never had a problem.

His post insinuated the implication of blaming it on the tower being up... which I feel is just absurd. Hence, my comment. If I'm incorrect, I apologize.

Cool? :D

I agree must be a s-10 he is towing with. I'm sure the tower can handle highway speeds! If it is only able to be towed at 45 I would not want to hook my rope to the thing----I'd yank it right off the boat when I cut hard----and I weigh 160:)

+1 on the speaker sox.
45mph, are you serious? In a 45mph speed zone or on the freeway?

I don't cuss, but if I gotta slow down to 45mph, I can lug 6th gear enough to black out anyone on my right side for about 10sec straight.
