Good evening all,

Ok, here is the deal: Bought new 2006 x-30 from great dealer, etc. Boat performed very well at sea level. however, boat is going to be up at Lake Tahoe, CA Ielevation 6500 ft). Tried it out this weekend with stepped down prop (from stantard 13.7x19.5 to 13.7x17.5). It was a DOG. With five adults on board, could not get its rear out of the water. RPM = +4500, Final plane/top speed at 47mph (when itfinally die plane!, uncalibrated). Spoke with dealer in Lake Tahoe...they say prop for that elevation must be stepped down even further to 13.7 x 15.5. Dealer has ordered new prop. that said, does anyone have any REAL experience in this area. In other words, the nex x30 is 700 pounds heavier than the 2005. Is the the5.7 350 hp motor going to be sufficient...is it just a prop matter? Dealer in Tahoe says demo boat has the smaller prop. HELP!

Thanks!

'REDiculous!'

motor maybe too small , i took my 197 w/ lq9 and it ran great i did not notice any loss in power. took a booze cruise with 8 people, no problems.

Ouch, I hope not! Another Tahoe dealer notes it fits nearly all of their x-30's with the 5.7 and 13.7x 15.5 prop. I am VERY hopeful the prop switch works....

why does prop size matter depending on elevation?

Apparently loss of low end performance (quick ramp up of rpm) suffers at altitude. Flatter pitch prop cuts allows faster 'out of the hole' ramp up and cuts better. That said, I am still learning...and that's what the supposed experts are saying.

yep.. Air gets thinner the higher up you are. Since the air is less dense, in absolute terms, it contains less oxygen (and other elements) per unit of volume-- oxygen needed for combustion. Where I am (Calgary) is only 3,300 ft above sea level, and I notice a difference in performance compared to 1,000 ft asl in our vacation spot.

Alpace - 4 inches sounds like a sizeable drop, but the dealer probably has the experience. Be careful with full throttle.. with 4 inches less prop, you can probably redline that baby fairly easily..

Good luck. Rod it may have been the booze and the hottie by your side that didn't allow you to see clear. While the X30 is big, I would have to think you have enough HP. You would also think that the computer would compensate for the elevation??? I guess not. Is it possible that something in the drive to Tahoe became loose and is not right?

Well that sheds some light on the matter. I don't think anything came loose, etc. as motor is purring through the full range (700 rpm to 4,500 limit during break in). Again, it does get up to speed very nicely....just terrible out of the hole. Had great difficulty getting experienced skiers up. I really hope the prop change will correct. Am tol a 4 blade, splined OJ is the preferred for altitude....

fingers crossed.

Here are couple of photos on maiden voyage of '06 x-30. Donner Lake, (TAHOE). 36 degrees, rain, some snow. FREEZING!!

That said, could not wait to get it out there. REDiculous!

alpace, I don't really know what prop would work best for your application. Thomas (TripleStorm) might have a few suggestions. Put in a call to Eric at OJ or Bill at Acme. They know their props.

East TX,

Thanks much! Will call them today. I assume I can google them for address, number?
