Really, they stop installing them? So I have to ask, why do we keep using it? Because it's there and a good idea?

If you don't put a filter on there, you will have fuel all over the bilge. If you don't change it, it will clog up. MC went to an inline filter at some point about or after they went all fuel injection. I think it's a good thing to have, too.

I think they also stopped using them because the pumps went to an in-tank setup.

I had one on my 1994, it caused issues with the EFI and was removed, and an inline clear filter was added back at the tank.

I know what will happen if it's not installed but the adapter is still there, duh. lol :D

So they went to an inline filter after they drop these.

I would also assume they installed them to deal with the water in the gas at marinas? I don't ever buy gas on the lake. I figure filter has kept the old stock Holley clean all these years so I'll just keep changing it out biannually.

it looks like a oil filter down below the floor level on the right side looking at the front of the motor on mine. it is in a horizontal position.

Hey 92Maristar, mine already had an inline fuel filter after the fuel pump (on back side of engine, above the trans), so to keep trash from getting into the pump (water/fuel seperator is a filter also), a filter was installed at the gas tank under the back seat.

Is this the fuel separator? Do I spin it off like an oil filter or is there a way to drain any water out?
Thanks for you help

IIRC, loosen the big nut on the top of the bracket, hold the can below from spinning, the can with filter inside will drop down. Use a pan or a milk jug to catch it in, replace the filter and gasket, here, http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=RACR11T

Is that something I can buy at NAPA or Kragen?

Possibly, if the fired CEO of BOA that works there can cross reference the numbers after about 2 weeks.

i had one of those on my 89 tristar i just bought. i hate those paper filters so i took it out and installed on the yamaha fuel filters that we have been puttin on boats here at the shop. its about the best on made. but any aftermarket spin on fuel filter will be better than the paper ones.
