What has to be done to a 2003 197 TT to get it up to snuff with current boats. I understand the 2003 is not drive by wire, which might actually be a good thing. The hull is hooked we're good to go there.

The rudder would need updating to the 2006. Will it need a new bushing too? I think I read the shaft is larger. Can someone give me a guestimate on the cost of the rudder and bushing.

Is the prop a CNC prop or is a prop change in order?

Rudder and change the transmission to a 1.26 to 1

Update to ZERO OFF

Either 1:1 or 1.52:1.

I've been reading about someone who is converting older, non DBW boats to work with Zero Off (not sure is this involves changing them to DBW). So far, I don't recall if it has been done on an Indmar yet. The conversion runs several thousand dollars. If you already owned a boat and didn't want to drop a bunch of money on a new one, I could possibly understand doing this. If you are in the market, and zero off is something you must have, I'd say just buy a newer boat that already has it and spend more time on the lake instead of having your boat worked on.

What happened to the 95?

The guy that does the conversion is my mechanic. I talk with him daily.

Regarding speed control, Stargazer is fine with me. I want GPS based but it doesn't have to be ZO.

Regarding the 95, it's still probable. Though I've previously denied it, I am getting cold feet due to it sitting up for 15 years. The owner replaced the battery last year, hooked up a fake-a-lake and fired it right up. I wonder what kind of damage was done to the dry engine. He'd not fogged it or anything.

Thoughts?

What's that run, about $4K for the conversion?

No idea on damage from the boat sitting. Corrosion, I suspect. Where is the boat located (don't worry, I'm not in the market)?

The boat is in Arizona. Jody (mechanic) says there's no way of knowing if there's damage until we look at it. He also ran down a laundry list of parts that'd need replacing. Could be perfectly fine but it might not be. He's encouraging me to get it only if I can get the price down to reflect the uncertianty, hence my cold feet.

The ZO conversion I believe is in the 3 - 4K range.

PM sent with a question.

I really doubt much damage would occur in AZ. AZ is an extremely dry climate. Car collectors keep their collections in AZ because of this.

Unless you're a tournament skier and would stand to benefit from the exact pull you would get in practice from Zero Off, I'd put Stargazer in the boat and call it a day. Last year's revisions to the software fixed some things that were less than desirable. Speaking from a long line skier perspective and with an admittedly less than refined pallet, from behind the boat, I could not tell the difference between the two speed controls. It's a bit easier to mess with as a driver, but Perfect Pass SG is perfectly easy to use.

Buy the 95'! That's an awsome opportunity to have something that no one else has. ( a NEW 15 year old boat) Even if the motor fails prematurely (unlikely in my opinion) you could replace the block for what you are talking about spending on a speed control upgrade.
