I'm begging for help here. :confused:

I'm totally out of touch with pricing these days and I have a nice used X2 in my sights. I've looked at the NADA price but want to get a reality check. :o

How much should I pay for this X2 from a private owner?

* 2007 Mastercraft X-2
* RTP 310HP Engine
* 90HRS
* Blue, White/Silver Decals
* Blue Snap Covers
* Cockpit cover and middle add-on seat
* Blue Bimini Top
* Zero Flex Tower
* Triple Ballast Tanks
* Swivel Board Racks
* Tower Mirror
* Clarion CD/Stereo
* Drivers Stereo Remote
* Drivers I-pod/MP3 Input Jack
* JL Audio Component Speakers
* JL Audio Amplifier
* 10" JL Audio Subwoofer
* Depth Finder
* Air/Water Temp
* Teak Swim Platform W/Transom Saver
* Single Axle MasterCraft Trailer w/ brakes & spare
* The oil and transmission fluid were changed all three seasons by the Mastercraft dealer
* Boat was waxed 3-4 timers per year and it’s wiped down after every use
* The only options the boat does not have are perfect pass and tower speakers
* It does have the speed lock which is MasterCraft’s version of perfect pass

No experience with the speed lock or MC cruise, but couple boats I looked at had that and the owners said it woked flawlessly. PP is cool, but for my purposes wasn't necessary even though I have it. About $5-600 over MC cruise as an option.
Tower speakers/amp could run anywhere from $1k to $5k just for the components depending on the setup.
Compare asking prices of a bunch of other boats, tons of X2's for sale.
Other options to add/subtract from the price:
Tandem trailer
Teak or Fiberglass deck, personal preference, but the 'glass decks cost alot more.
Heater
Shower
Bigger engine MCX or LY6 (not that the RTP is bad, it's got the same snort as the MCX thru most of the rpm range).
Wake plate
Add'l ballast plumbed in.
Is it gonna need a new lower pitch prop?
Little doo dads, LED lighting, transom remote, wash down hookup, tower lights.

It's worth what you're willing to pay!

Thanks for the insight, Thrall. I'd like to counteroffer, but don't want to insult the guy. Looks like '07 X2's are ALL over the place. From $39k to the low $60s. So confoozed.

The boat you're looking at woudl fall on the lower end of the price spectrum you've seen since the boat doesn't have many of the major options that Thrall listed. The features the guy has listed are standard for the x series. Best thing going for the boat you are looking at is the hours. 90 is pretty low for an 07. Upper thirties is a fare price IMHO.

$35-37k, assuming it checked out perfect.

Let me clarify. Many people hit the crack pipe before they post their for sale ads. Others are sober but think if they put a high asking price, they can fool buyers into thinking they're getting a great deal when they agree to a lower price. This phenomena is most prevelant in the motorcycling community, but seems to have invaded the boating community as well during these tough economic times.

Don't worry about insulting him. How many calls you get when you're selling your $10,000 whatever it is....riiiing, hello "Hey I'll give you $2000 and will you take payments?"
I get them every time I sell something.
Lowball the guy and see what he says. He might tell you to pound sand or he might say that's the best offer he's had, done deal.
Make sure you lowball him at first anyway. Kinda gives you buyer's remorse if you've already negotiated it a couple times in your head, come up with a fair price, thinking the seller is still going to want to negotiate a bit and they say "ok" without batting an eye.
Takes me a while to quit thinking "I wonder how much lower he would have gone?"

My advice would be to buy Skidog's and call it a day. You wont find a better price on an X2 with all the options it has- best of which is being a saltwater series version...

I would stay away from this boat b/c of line item #2, 310 hp RTP. Hurts value and resale. Unless you can get an unheard of deal, say in the low to mid 30's. Even then, if you use it for a couple of years, put some hours on it will probably be worth high $20k's to $30k. It will be tough to sell with that motor unless you give a good deal.......

Ski Dog's boat is loaded compared to the one you're looking at. There's a ton of money in the tower (stereo, lights), tralier and the SS package. I believe the metal flake was an option too.

If I was looking for an X2 I would take along hard look. That is a good price for that boat. I was considering the jump from the X1 but decided to stay put.

Although the SS package is not something I'd pay extra for, don't need it, I'd buy Skidogs boat and get it for free.
Unless you got a smoking deal cooking on something else, his boat is definately in the lower end of the price spectrum for what you get. And less than 100hrs, ain't even broke in. I got more hrs a year on my PS 190 and it snows 7 months a year here!
check out www.jaxed.com, site MASH. It will list all CL and ebay adds for motorsports stuff in the country. Good for price checking if nothing else.

As long as one doesn't interpret CL asking prices as market value. Those two things are about as comparable as apples and dryer lint.

That is a phenomenal price for skidog's boat. Been in it and behind it personally. Great looking boat at a great price. I can't imagine it lasting long.

I personally would not buy anything with the RTP engine unless it were such a smoking deal that it were impossible to resist. And part of my reasoning would be for resale.

Better have your boots on boys. The MCX stuff is getting pretty deep (again). Geez you'd think people were talking big block versus small block here. I have two words for anyone with a technical background..... Dyno Sheet The two engines run out almost exactly until they get towards the top of their functional RPM range. Now let's be truthful, when is the last time you went surfing or wake boarding at 4800 RPM? Do you really believe MC would sell a boat that "needed" a bigger motor to be a viable product in their product line?

I think this has been done before or another way of saying it would be beat to death. The MCX is real pretty and develops more horse power at the top end of the RPM range. Great for speed runs (if you call 50 MPH a speed run) or bare footing. For those of us that are surfing and wakeboarding at under 30 MPH, you're really not going to feel the difference between the RTP or MCX.

Resale could be a deciding factor but I would submit that I would rather have a real well taken care of RTP boat than a thrashed MCX. All things being equal the MCX is an easy choice but it is only one factor that should be taken into consideration when making your decision. Ski Dog's boat looks to give you the best of all worlds. Well optioned, well taken care of and the MCX to boot. Looks like a great deal to me.

bturner, thank you so much for "finally" posting your reply! was just getting ready to hop in this thread when i read what you said. yes i have a 07 x2 with the "ugly looking" rtp 310 hp engine. i run factory ballast along with the high fly rear ballast (yes 800 lbs) along with 400 lbs of pop products up front. i have yet to have any big issues with getting my son on plane and to top that two of them boarding at the same time on plane. yes i am running the oj wakeprop. i have a friend with a cc 211 that has the pcm excalibur 343 hp with factory prop and 1/2 of the ballst i run and he has to adjust his hydrogate to pull his son and my son out of the water.:D

the mdx does bring some bigger resale and does look pretty but if you like the boat go for it.

btw, with the wakeprop i hit 39.9 with stargazer yesterday with no weight added.

I would suggest buying Skidoggs boat as well. I have personally riden in and behind it. Although I am a slalom skier and prefer the 197, this boat is amazing! Don't let the saltwater use scare you. I know that he washed and cleaned the boat almost every other time he went out. This one is a no brainer!

i would add one's personal failed attempt to sell their own boat along with NADA to that list as well.

Yes, I'm definately talking about Northern California, as that is the market I follow, but I'm not talking just about my boat. I have been all over the ads out here for the last 18 months and NOTHING is selling. Last 3 trips to the local dealer, months apart, the same left over boats were sitting there, at pretty darn low prices as well.

I think anyone coming on here asking for pricing advice is making a mistake. A forum of boat owners, a number of which are trying to sell their boats, and dealer reps is going to be just a bit biased. Couple that with the fact that many of the people on here, myself included, bought boats in the past 5 years at inflated prices, and you're liable to get some less than realistic data.

My advice to anyone buying a boat is to have cash in hand, find a boat you like, and offer below NADA. If they don't accept it, move on to the next boat you like and repeat. In this market, eventually someone will take your offer and you'll get a boat at a fair price.
