Made my first trip to the water this year. Almost 70 degree water temp. About 85 degree air temp. No other boats on the water. When we motored to the back of the cove to drop the slalom course into place my daughter spotted this little guy. He stayed on the log until I dropped after the first pass back into the cove. Not really sure where he went after that?8p56776

When I launched the boat there were two locals sitting in a pickup truck. As I walked by the driver said "ain't seen a boat like that before". The two were sucking down Natural Light from a twelve pack between the drivers' legs. He was good enough to warn me that the recent high water may have set loose some big logs. The alligator topic came up since we saw one in the same place last season. He said something like "ah heck, just jump on in there and grab that guy up, ain't nuthin to worry about".

I have skied once in waters that had the beasts and had a hard time concentrating on skiing. Here in CO we have a few lakes that the perch will bit your moles thinking it's food, I will take that anyday over your situation. Of course... our water is still about 50 degrees.

As long as the population of the Alligators are under control and the water is not over run with them, one should have no issues what so ever. Every lake I ski on in Sebring/Lake Placid in FL have gators in them. never had an issue.

"never had an issue" When/if you do it could be a serious issue though.

In my high school days we frequented the Chattahoochee just north of the bay. Alligators were there by the dozen. They were so use to boats they'd not sink out of sight until you were right on them. We use to jump from the boat and see if we could touch one. A few times we were actually successful, and still have all limbs...

Wow! I did some crazy things too but...nothing like jumping out of a boat trying to touch a gator.
\OK,we don't have gators here but still...:D

good point... but I do not think there ever has been a report of a gator attacking a down skier on the 3 lakes I ski. once every few years, a gator gets a dog and over 50 percent of the time the old people have been feeding the gators at their back yard and actually have been fined when the police/Wildlife show up.

While stationed at Ft. Stewart, GA I was at a lake full of gators and a guy was throwing a ball in the water for his dog to fetch. Another man warned him about the gators. The guy blew him off. A gator killed his dog in the water. About a year later, a fisherman lost his balance and hit his head on the boat before falling into the water. Gators pulled him to the bottom and stuck him under a log. Our entire company climbed into small boats, formed a perimeter around the divers, and repeatedly smacked the water with paddles while they recovered the body.

You can check the Florida gator attack database. In all of Florida, there has been only one documented case of a gator biting a waterskier. And that was only a small gator that nipped the guy in the hand while he was waiting in shallow water for the boat to come back to him. Most likely a case of mistaken identity.
Gators are generally afraid of people. You would be too if there were guys like bxroads always jumping out of their boats trying to "touch" you.

Yeah, I always worry about the dogs playing in the lake... and the fisherman... thats easy food for the beast, like a dog, he offered no fight.

I guess I'm ready to mix it up with the gators then.
