Boat: 05 Prostar 209 MCX 1:1 Mastercraft Perfectpass Wakeboard Pro 6.5N TBW.

My PP has never worked correctly since I picked up the new boat. I am by no means ruling out user error since this is my first PP but this thing is driving me crazy! Has anyone else with an 05 had any problems??

The boat will not hold speed and the throttle is all over the place. I finally got the boat back out on the water this weekend and here is what is hapening:

I get the boarder/skier up and the PP beeps to take over at 1mph below the set speed. Then it throttles back violently and speed drops a few mph. Then it beeps again and throttles back up to 1mph below set speed, beeps again and throttles back again.............. over and over again. I never seems to settle down at the set speed. Always approaches set speed until 1mph under the set speed and then throttles way back.

Over memorial day weekend it did not seem to have any pattern, it was up and down all over the place. It was very sparatic even at slalom speeds. It appears I am getting a good reading from the paddle wheel but the software just seems to have a mind of its own.

Any thoughts??

I have not yet changed any of the factory settings. Is there something that needs to be adjusted or am I doing something wrong?? I want to rule out user error before it goes back to the dealer........

Thanks in advance!! ;)

I'm no expert either, but if it is in speed mode, it would stand to reason that your paddle wheel is not sending a consistent reading and, as a result, the perfect pass is attempting to compensate.

I'm no expert either, but what you're experiencing sounds like a definite problem. My '04 210 usually runs about 2 mph past the desired setting, then drops down about 2 mph below, then creeps back up a settles down. I tell my boarders (and myself) to just give it about thirty seconds behind the boat to settle down before heading outside the wake. The only technique that seems to make a difference is to not over throttle getting up to speed, and do not attempt to set the PP while in any kind of a significant turn. Other than that, PP should have no problems. My vote is that you need to go back to your dealer and have them diagnose it.

The only reason I think the wheel is working correctly is that the actual MPH on the PP fluctuates up and down consistently. I guess it could be the wheel but I don't know how to tell...........

Just a thought.. does the wheel move freely.. is it possible that its somehow binding?

My PPWB pro did that in my x2 with MCX, if you're gettin on the throttle hard to get the boarder up, and then you're not getting back off of it some before the PP takes over, it's going to drop the throttle hard, and cause the problems you're talking about. try getting your rider up, then pulling back on the throttle some and easing the speed up until the PP takes over. you can also read your PP manual, the setting may need some adjusting

I agree. I too have the MCX and find that (for boarding anyway) a good firm pop out of the water and then a steady increase the 3300 rpm works great. PP seems to settle in pretty well with that technique. Just takes a couple of adjustments (as stated above) and it works like a charm. With a brand new boat (as long as they promise to get it back to you before the weenend! :D ) make it your dealership's problem. That's what they're there for (besides collecting large sums of money).

There is an issue depending on ballast/people on board with the Perfect Pass system and the DBW. You can email or call me and I'll explain.

I was hoping you would chime in! Every trip I have had no fewer than 8 people and/or the ballast full. Expect a phone call.............

Thanks!

MyMC, are there any issues running in trick mode (also speed based). I referred a guy on the Nicholl's board to you with a question on this. His PP is overshooting (also 05 MC DBW).
