I want to get a factory tower for my 2001 209. Does anybody know how to go about ordering one?
Would my dealer be able to get the tower for a boat this old? And install it?
I'm also looking at getting the factory racks, speakers, lights, mirror, and bimini top that would have came with an X-9.
I don't want any aftermarket stuff even if it is better.

I believe that New Dimension made the towers for MC back then. You can ask your dealer to check with the factory to see if they have any left over. But I doubt they do. So you can contact ND, but then it'd technically still be an aftermarket tower, not original....

The pictures I have seen of the New Dimension towers sure seem to match the original "Zero-Flex Flyer" on my '02 X9.
Buying the original speakers is a waste of money. They do not work anywhere close to as well as the new stuff. Ask me how I know.

How do you know?:D

I have the original tower speakers, and they suck. :D
You can just barely hear them when riding with the stereo at 100%.
In fact, if you really want the original speakers, I know someone who might be willing to work something out. :D
Here's a somewhat fuzzy picture of the original speakers. They are the round ones on the outside. The middle speakers are some Bose patio style speakers.... I really need to upgrade.

Do you think you could replace the plates on the side of the tower with the factory MC ZF plates?

What about newer OEM mastercraft speakers?
as much as i love the look of the mc factory speakers$$$$$$. i would personally go with some wetsounds pro 60's.

What about the factory tower from a 2005-2006 X-9, that should fit my 2001 as they have the same hull, correct?

Not sure what plates (wakeboard racks?) you are referring too, I believe the only place my tower says Zero flex is a vinyl decal or two.

Can't comment, don't know much about them. I also don't know how much swapping around speakers in existing cans one can do.
I am, however, looking forward to reading what people suggest, because I need to do something sooner rather than later.

Also how hard is this going to be to install? I want a factory looking job.
Is there some type of pre positioned reinforcements on my boat already or what?

Maybe a dealer will chime in, or pm erkohler or baws, or one of those guys, several dealers on here that should be able to tell you if the 05-06 tower will mount up. I would suspect it will bolt right up if the hull is the same.
Maybe find a a dealer or someone near you that has the newer tower and go take some measurements before installing yours.
Nothing magic about mounting the tower, if you're an average backyard mechanic, other than access to the bolts on the underside, but a 209 should be easier than a closed bow. Bolts on my X2 are waaaaay easier to get to than my 190 I put a tower on.
If there's not pre installed backing plates, a simple steel or aluminum plate will do.
Mounting the tower is as easy as getting it set in the right spot, triple check that it's all symmetrical and drill the holes. Several threads on here about tower installs too, precautions about how to drill the gelcoat, etc.
ttu is right, the factory cans are expensive for what they are. They are top quality and good sounding though, just there's equal and better sounding speakers for less money. Roughly, you can buy new top of the line aftermarket speakers for the same $ as used MC speakers.

The newer tower from 05-06 will work, but you will need to have backing plates made to help distribute the load.

Why won't the packing plates that are already fiberglassed into the hull work for this tower?
Is this tower still available from Mastercraft?
scott,
I had my tower on my 02 209 installed by Xtreme Tower Products(XTP) in Knoxville TN. They built and installed MC's towers for a few years. I have a Zeroflex(OEM) but the New Dimension is a close design. Also XTP can hook you up with what ever accessories you will need.

Guessing the newer tower doesn't mount in the same spots.
Not sure what yr MC started equipping the Prostars with backing plates glassed in either.

Does anybody know how to go about finding one of these OEM out of production ZF towers for this boat?
Scott,
Check with Xterme tower products in Knoxville TN. They have their own engineers and builders with the specs for the Zeroflex tower. My guess is that it would be costly to have one built, but you never know. You may be able to get it done for around the same price as off the rack from ND or another Co.

Why wouldn't I just get an NDT tower then? Neither of these would be factory.
