View Full Version : Steering Cable on Maristar 230

I just picked up a 2000 Maristar 230 with 165 hrs on it. Everything in great shape, but the steering is pretty tight. Service guy says that he would run it a bit to see if it loosens up as the boat has not been used much and it has been cold around here.

If I decide to replace it, how tough is this job? I am mechanically inclided and like to do my own work. The rudder is lubed up good and he said that it has free movement.

Thanks

Hey Seth -
I haven't had to do mine yet, but there are plenty of threads on here about replacing the cable.

From all the threads I've read, it's: Securely attach the new cable to the old one, pull the new one through the bilge as you pull the old one out, attach at both ends, and you're done. An hour or two, it seems.
