Strongly considering organizing a MC event for this region. Curious to see how many would be interested and the best location. I'm think the Texarkana would be centralized best.

I'm thinking late May to June time frame. I think Lake Broken Bow would be a good choice. Lots of cabins and nice lake.

Lake Broken Bow has some really nice cabins available, One cabins is 4 bedroom and sleeps 15. divide that up amoung 4 families and its not bad at all. 450 a night on weekends.. next to the lake and they have tons of cabins... Just a suggestion

Were from Arkansas 20 years ago they used to have the MC boat owners reunion in Hot Springs. It was fun but I was 8 so..... Anyway Greers Ferry Lake in Arkansas has a HUGE MC crowd and a cove where all other boats are given the stink eye upon drifting in... there are probably 15 or so MC's tied up @ any given time during the summer weekends and another 10 that are to freaked out to scratch their boat floating around. FED EX groups of piolts come up every year and set up a course. FUN PLACE FUN LAKE!!!

Texarkana was just a general centralized area... I then suggested Broken Bow cause of the available cabins and it being a really nice place. I'm up for suggestions... H2O that sounds like an option. What is there as far as hotels/cabins/house rentals? It be nice to have a centralized camping/cabin area so we can have fun off the water as well.

Now that I think about it, I have been there, it was about 12 years ago though. I was a counselor for a camp for kids with cancer and we had a reunion there as well. Very pretty place but we didn't have a boat available to enjoy the water much. I'd be interested in that.

I vote for Broken Bow. Love that lake.

Let me know dates as soon as you can. I need to block time out for this. I'm heading to Deals Gap mid may with the 2 wheel toys. Son is coming home from Iraq for leave, so we need to play on the bikes and hit the lake too.

Let me throw in another idea Lake Quachita Hot Springs more central than the Greers Ferry idea and not near a busy.Cabins everywhere and a super clean lake.

Either lake works for me. We are at Broken Bow 3-4 times/year and have been going for the last 15 years or so. Also have done houseboat trips on Ouachita recently. Both are great lakes. Ouachita is a much bigger lake, but there are probably more cabins to rent around BBow - but move fast on cabin rentals as they book 1-2 months in advance for summer. I am not 100% committed yet due to other vaca plans, but if we are in town, we will attend.

I think Broken Bow would be a good choice. 4 hour drive for me and TX-30 I'm sure there are some aunt mom's that are single if you haven't scratched that off the list yet. Simple, just pull in the truck stops and leave your right blinker on. :D

Actually I just booked my cabin, I got Wilderness Retreat, its a 2 bedroom but 1 is still open at the moment. sleeps up to 9 and I have four on the list. Still don't mind extras.

We're in for this. Will book the cabin tonight or tomorrow. If anyone needs info on cabins, let me know. We are up in this area quite a bit and can help out with booking companies, cabins, etc.

Before everyone knew about this lake, we used to barefoot across the middle of it at sunset. Hoping the water is that good, this time.

Seems like we are starting to get a decent response. Once I can figure about how many we are having, I will try and plan a cook out for Saturday night. Some boiled shrimp, potatoes, corn, mushrooms, etc. I'd like to bring crawfish but can get pricey and smelly... plus I would have to cook them Friday night.

Lets try to get the word out to local MC owners to make this a bigger turnout.

I don't have problem with kids. Just realize, there will be adults involved, and some may not know there limits. There will be some high school/college age, in my group. (Personally, I'm WELL, past college age.)

There is actually lots, to do, around the area. Beavers Bend State Park has, horse back riding, mini train, etc.

Shrimp might be a little sketchy, after two days. If you want shrimp, we probably can locate some, in Idabel. I'll probably, be making my 1st day trip to BB, next month.

Also, note: do to Saturday lake parties, local grocery stores sell out of ground beef and chicken.

I not expecting, a Lake Havazoo crowd. But you never know. Places where we ski and board, are across the lake, from where we camped or stay. So can be a problem, for young families.

We usually, don't get there till 8:30 -9:30pm Friday.(Leave after work)

I have rooms, at Lakeview Lodge. (580-494-6179) Which has picnic tables on the lake and boat ramp. We usually, claim a spot on the point. (It has shade.) We can claim some more spots, if needed.

As for the statement on parking It ment at that marina. There are other good places to launch. I wish you would consider coming. I'll give up my parking spot for ya. Hey everyone,
I noticed the thread here about interest in the Broken Bow Lake (http://www.hickoryhillcabins.com/) area for a vacation trip. Just letting you know that there is lots of information about the area and activities as well as cabin rentals on our website at the link above. If you have never been to BB Lake before, you won't be disappointed. We get lots of folks up here from the Dallas area that love it. In the summer months, we see lots of ski/wake boats. I slalom ski myself and the lake has crystal clear water surrounded by forested mountains. We live about 3 miles from the lake so let me know if anyone has any questions about anything up here.

Taylor and I would like to get a for sure head count....

I have a portable ski course and am curious weather or not to bring it.

I do not have magnets for the PP for course tiimes.

I would also need anchors to make it work.

Do I need to bring this and is there anyone who can help me with anchors or timing magnets.

It is not small and I would have to huck this big thing from Ft. Worth and would be a total beating. I have never used it but it would seem interesting.

I NEED IDEAS YES OR NO TO BRING IT

I am still thinking on how I would get it there and such. If there is hardcore guys that want it and would be willing to help set it up I am in. I refuse to put it up and take it down by my self.

I have set up and taken out too many ski courses up alone and I am not going to spend a weekend jacking with it alone.

Main issue is location, and protecting your course. How long, does intake, to put in a course?

Can't promise, this weekend... my brother-n-law (Tige owner:mad: and former comp skier)and I, will go up and check out, a few spots. He does know, where courses had been put in, in the past.

Right now, water level is up, and probably rising.

I believe that the Insta or Porta Slalom that I own can be installed and taken down in 30 minutes each way. If you go online and read about them they all say that it is under an hour. I will believe it when I see it....

I do believe that if we can get a hand full of guys that it sould not be so bad. I am guessing 3 or 4 guys could do it under 30 min.

I am going to do a practice run on my course and time how long it takes with 2 people to get an idea.

I did break the reel that you roll the rope back up on when you are finished using the course a year ago moving, so it is a good oportunity to test out how to install the course. From what I have seen, you will want a good reel putting the course in and taking it out. I will go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy a better reel or a bigger style hose reel. I think that will help drasticly on taking the course out.

On the last post that I posted, I think that I answered how long does it take to put in a course. If you were meaning distance vs time you will need about 3000 feet. I have seen it done under 2700 in legnth but it starts getting tight.

I am still thinking on how I would get it there and such. If there is hardcore guys that want it and would be willing to help set it up I am in. I refuse to put it up and take it down by my self.

I have set up and taken out too many ski courses up alone and I am not going to spend a weekend jacking with it alone.

I have put portable slalom courses in Broken Bow on several occasions. Mostly, we used to put them in the coves on the east side of the lake. That being said, that is the worst place to put them on the weekend as that is where all of the rec boaters and tubers hang out...

The other challenge to putting a porta-course in that lake is the depth. Most of the coves are ~100 ft. deep and that makes it a challenge to get the anchors to set properly.

Guys - sorry, but I am 'out' for this trip. Just found out I am going to Vancouver the week after this and it is just too much to cram it all in. Looking forward to some great stories when you return. Broken Bow is a great place to be on the water.

NCSONE,
We probably ski in the same coves, on the eastside.

Agreed, BB gets deep, very quickly. Saturday clueless-water warriors big problem, mid day. (It's not a mad house situation, but just enough.) So, no need to look for trouble.

I'll get some locations, and depths, I'll post the info. Go from there.

There are two great, long coves that run east-west on the north end of the lake. Typically, these coves will have 1 or 2 boats in them during the busiest part of the day and each are over a mile long. Usually, the other boats are good about taking turns and most of the wallies are down on the south end of the lake. They are perfect for skiing passes, but they are definitely deep and would be tough to install a porta-course in.

Then again, it is a recreational lake and usually 95% of the boats are off of the lake by 45 minutes before sunset, leaving the lake to the dedicated boats and sunset runs.

I hate to give up my spots on that lake, but for fellow MC owners, its OK.

If it is before, the cliffs on the northend, probably been in the coves. If it is, north of the cliffs, haven't been that far.

I'm an early riser, so generly ski the coves east of the dam, till noon. Then wait for sunset runs.

The two places I am thinking of are south of the big cliff. One goes due west from the main body of water for over a mile. The other one is kind of a S-bend that goes east from the main body. Entrances to both are probably 1-2 miles south of the cliffs. If you look at a lake map, they are real easy to find.

Have fun!

If you go east from the marina past the area where the main dam is and follow the southern shore there is a long cove that we call bingham. It is always open early (unless I'm there that weekend and is shallow enought it should hold the anchors well. Not as may wallies and there is room to turn without double up's. It is my prime site to go early because it' relatively close. I can't make it that weekend but wish I could.

Where is the nearest airport?

Kyle
03-24-2010, 04:01 AM
I am sure it will depend on if you are taking a plane like American Airlines style or your own personal plane.

Do you want a private airport or a regular passenger airport.

Please excuse my ignorance.

Kyle
03-24-2010, 04:25 AM
If you are flying on a private plane, I googled a few air strips near the state park that you could land and one of us could pick you up. There is a small strip in Broken Bow town and it looks to be about 30 min or less from the site. If you are flying on an American Airlines kind of plane you need to go to DFW, OKC, or Little Rock, listed closest to furthest. Then the drive will be 3 to 4 hours from there.

This place is in the middle of no where where humans have not jacked up the environment. It is in the middle of a forrest and there are state parks around it. The lake is suposed to be very deep and very clear water. Most of the land around the lake is natural Indian territory. It should be beautiful.

Yep. Know the coves. They are nice, great for free skiing. Very deep, and will be deeper.

Lake is at nearly 100% conservation level, about to go over. So lake could be 10-20' higher.

It'll be our littler secret, no one reads this site. :D

Ok the gator is now out of Broken Bow so we all are safe now. Taylor and I would like for this to be a big turn out, and would like to meet as many TTers as possible. The trip is now 5 weeks out and I would like to get a head count on for sure yes's and No's. There will be plenty of Bloody Mary's there if that is a must for people to show up. I personally cant stand them and if someone could make me a good one I may partake in having one. I see this trip being a lot of fun and want to see a lot of MasterCrafts there.

Taylor and I have also talked about a party on either Friday or Saturday night. I do realize that this is going to be a family trip for some and for other singles out there it will be some time to get away. That being said we dont see this being a college party were everyone is running around acting like wild indians, but some may let loose a bit.

Please let us know.

Time to bump the thread.

Just talked to Lakeview Lodge, lake is full, all ramps open.

We'll come in late, Friday nite.

Soo... how do we do this?

Water wise.
1) Morning location,(southend of lake) for early ski runs and bloody marys (kind of a meet & greet), this location is close to all the ramps. ... then move to the really-really big west cove, noonish or 1-ish for fun and games.

or 2) Do everything at really-really big west cove. (NOTE: really-really big cove is well shelted, water is pretty good all day, and is far from weekend wallys.

Also, how many BrokenBow newbies?

I have never been on the lake. Someone who knows where we all can go get on the lake and have a good time, ski, tie boats up and throw a few back and have fun, wakeboard, etc needs to help on where the best water will be. Does this lake have a shallow beach area were we could anchor out close to the beach and have some kind of rest spot or party spot for say luch or hang out.

We need to start getting a for sure head count. Those who have my number or Taylors can call and let us know or by posting on this thread. We dont want to leave anyone out as the lake looks rather large from the map above.

Where to put in---from Broken Bow,OK north on 259, to Hochatown, Take a right on Stevens Gap(there will a Resteraunt and Gokart track on your right),go east on very twisty road(keep your speed down) at the dead end, turn left for public ramp, turn right for marina ramp(free to launch)(don't recommend marina, unless you have to, it can be a mad house, parking is terrible.) Or back up the road, go to Lakeview Lodge, get there early. There are other spots, mainly on westside of lake.

The dam is at the southern most point, on the map. To the east there is a big cove, behind a barrier island, decent early morning runs, until about 11, then tubbers start showing up.
Won't want to stay there, all day.

Due north of dam, right before the 1st horseshoe bend, to the west (Really-Really big cove)
Very good wind protection, rarely have I seen many boats in there. Really good water.

There are no sandy beaches! You do not want to beach your boat. It is a flood control lake, so the bottom drops off, very quickly. Bring an anchor, pleny of anchor line, and fenders. Bring water shoes, lake botton is flint or slate stone, in many areas. (You've been warned!)

You are correct, it is near the cliffs. I've been passing the Really Big Cove, for years, figuring, it's to big. Really, doesn't have much traffic, especially the farther inyou go.

Lot of people anchor, at the cliffs, but I go to the lake to ski.
