Hey, the word around wakeboarder.com is that theres going to be a new Mastercraft model for 2006. Supposedly the current X-2 is going to be renamed the X-1, and changed to a price point boat at around 39k MSRP. Same hull, I guess.
Just need some confromation. I am very interested in this. The only thing that has kept me from buying a Mastercraft is the price. If it means anything to you guys at Mastercraft, I would buy this boat for sure if it were really true.
Any info on this, or Mastercraft's plans for next year would be highly appreciated. Until I hear anything official about this, I'm going to be focusing on other manufacturers that I could pick up a boat from for the same price the X-1 is rumored to go for. Thanks.

Don't know if it's true or not, but MC does need to get a model in this price line. Not every one can afford a $50,000 boat. :twocents:

I agree with a price point boat, Malibu has done it with the new iride.
Not everyone wants to spend 50 g's for a new boat.

yeah for some average joe that love skiing, but not enought to put 50-60 K into, this would be a nice boat, maybe they should do that with a 197 (hint hint MC!!!!!)

I'm not saying I'd be unhappy about M/C pricing the X-2 (or new X1) at $39K, but that is originally the boat I had my sights set on. It was way too expensive, so I went with the MariStar 210 and suited it up for wakeboarding. I may be making a trade if this rumor is true because those boats are PERFECT for wakeboarding.

check mymastercraft.com.....I think mike had something on his website about the model switch....I believe the X1 will the the price point boat but I am not sure if it is going to be the old X2.
Yep, April is correct we have covered it over there. Old X2=new X1.

When I visited Tenn in April, I was told that the current X-2 is going to be renamed the X-1 and it is going to be a price point boat, same boat same hull but from what I understood they are going to take off some of the bells and whistles and it's going to be a very basic entry level boat, if I remember correctly it's going to only have one engine option, it's not going to be cheaper built, same MasterCraft quality, just less frills, back to only the basics. The new X-2 is going to be totally different, got to see one of the hulls for the new X-2 on the tour, it's basically going to be a mini-x-star, with pickle fork and all. It will be exactly 20 ft long, the beem is wider (forget the dimensions). What they said is it is supposed to all happen for the '06 model year. Guess we can only wait and see.
I nabbed a few pics before MC took them off of other sites (out of repsect I won't put them up here - oh and cuz' they'd be down before morning). The X-2 has a similar boxed transom like the other new X's... either an adaptation or totally new. Either way it is more than just wider than the current X-2. It does have three fins unlike the X-45 though.

This is the response I got from them
Dear Mr. Dierolf,
I ask engineering about your inquiry and here is the answer.
Yes, this is a true statement.
Sincerely,
Team MasterCraft Customer Care Representative
I wish they could be more detailed. Any more info on this boat? Keep us posted.
What do you want to know that has not been covered?

That is what I would love to see as well. A price point 197. The only bell and whistle I need is PP.

Last month I was picked by the Herron Group of Tampa a research company to come and discuss with about 11 people also picked. There were 4 MasterCraft owners in the group including me. What happened is that we all went into a room and had a discussion about some renderings of a couple boats. They didn't tell us anything about who was the company. The boats were like a 2 seater center console boat about the size of the X2 and instead of walking through the center of the boat you walked around on the sides of the console. (REAL FUNNY LOOKING) same engine, button in carpet, they gave us a list of specs. No wooden stringers, no wake board tower. It was kind of basic boat. The discussion lasted around 2 1/2 hours and then they paid us for our time $100 cash. Come to find out on the way out some one asked the designer in the discussion if he worked for MasterCraft and he said yes. I can tell you that this boat is more like the SeaRay boat crowd.
I assume you are/were referring to the new (2006) X2...take the current X-Star shrink it and there you have it. The boat to be used for the 2006 catalog is being completed right now, and production versions SHOULD be coming to dealers in late fall.
As to the PS197...sorry but to the best of my knowledge there is no plan for a price point on this unit (at this time).
mrcrowson, the boat you are referring to is not the new X2 or any model that will see the light of day in 2006.

Gotcha.. All I know was it was a very private discussion. The boat held about 10 people, not a hole lot of storage, removable pylon, folding back seat to make it easier to get over from the deck, seat in front of the center console, gas tankes in the hull.
Just didn't look right,
