I am looking to buy one of the old Ski Seat's. I learned how to water ski when I was 6 with the ski seat. If you have one or know someone selling one I would be interested in buying it for my boy's to learn. Here is a pic of one. Thanks

I once won a bet by making a step-off on one of those things! Imagine 42 mph on one of those things and then trying to barefoot off if it...scared the crap out of me!

That would be crazy to try that I am glad that you made it out alive. I am sure I would have to clean my shorts if I where to try barefoot off from it lol.

I did it on a small show site behind a BF 200. They made the turn and just floored it. You went from about 20-42 in a bout a second! Put the 1st foot in the water and you still felt like there was a lot of metal underneth you! The crazy things we did inbetween shows!

There are better ways to learn than that...too many hard edges.

Get a boom for your newly restored boat, get some wide trainers and have at it...knees bent, arms straight, chin up!

Decent video by Lane Bowers, here:

As an alternative, Schnitz shows a guy on his site learning to ski from an inflatable...same idea as the seat-ski, but much softer.

Jorski, That is a good idea to use a tube to start out on never thought of that. I have been looking aound to see what a boom would cost there not to bad priced for a new one. I bet a good used one would be better if I could find one.

AMskierjim...

I found mine on ebay...I think it was around $250. Taught both kids to ski at around 4 years old with it. The boom makes it very easy to learn.

A boom with some trainer skis is the way to go in my opinion if available. You can drag alongside to help stabilize them as well.

No...fins!

No...fins!

Could have removed the fins and replaced with some home-made jump fins made out of a 1x2 like we did for the combination skis we used over the jump we made when I was 16.

No...fins!

I am suprised you did not put jump fins on it or simply take them off for a dare session.

this is a 2x5 ft. plywood sheet with the front end soaked for a day and then pulled out of the water. I sanded it down well and then fiberglassed it. That was a disaster. I painted how I wanted it, screwed in fins below and found some extras foot straps. rope.
Those are the best blueprints you can get from how we got there.
