My Inland Red Woody will not fit in my stock 07 X-Star racks. Does anyone know of any rack that will work well and fit my boat?

i bought a Z5 rigid cargo bimini and keep my surfboards up there. my friend has the standard MC collapsible bimini and uses bunge cords to keep it strapped up there. works fine. we jokingly refer to it as the Z 2.5 somewhat rigid cargo bimini.

skylon, fly high, and a few other companies make racks that could attach to the tower, but won't look as good and often only hold one board.
just wondrin, where do u ride at up here in the nw?

I would be willing to bet John from mastercraft by design could make a modified version of the stock board racks that opened up wider to accomodate the wider surf boards. I would want them to mount on the forward tower legs but maybe they could be a replacement for the stock rack.
dbot5 makes a great surfboard rack. my opinion the best i have seen out there.

I mostly ride Lake Whatcom in Bellingham. The Z5 rigid cargo rack is nice, I just don't want to always have the bimini up. I will check out the dbot5.

my issue is finding one that will clamp on to my tower. All the manufacturers I have found do not make a clamp larger than 2-1/2", I need 2-7/8" for my x star.

get some bunge cords and strap your surfboards to the top of your bimini. works fine at 30 mph or so. just be sure to remove your boards and fold your bimini up when you get on the highway. looks good, works good, flexible and cheap. if you find a rack to mount to your front tower legs the boards will seriously impair your safety/driving vision. my buddy found that out too as he had some good racks on his front tower legs but they blocked his view when driving the boat.

We are in the process of engineering a surf rack that will be available soon. The surf rack will be styled to match the current board rack and will be of MC quality. Does anyone out there happen to know what the thickest surf board is? IS Red Woody?

John,
The thickest surfboards I have come across are wakesurf boards made by wakesurf companies like The Walker Project. (Like MC they are the best.) I have an Inland Surfer Blue lake that easily fits into my 2005 clamping racks, so I am a bit surprised the Red Woody doesn't fit into this guys' 2007? ( I know they switched up the clamps a bit in 2007, but it should still fit?)
I can give you some specs. when I get home or I can give you Mike Walker (The Walker Project, www.thewalkerproject.com) contact info. He and I have discussed designing a limited edition custom wakesurfer for MC. Let me know if you think this would be a good idea

Bruce,
Sorry I don't have a better picture of the rack. This is the only one I have......

I have a wakesurf rack that secures the board with bungee cord; I stopped using it after the 3rd time the board fell out and landed in the boat while going +30mph. Just make sure that the board is held firmly in place. Have others had the same issue?

My red woody is 2-1/4" wide. I have not be able to measure my rack, but from what I remember is that is 1-3/4" wide. I also have a yellow loogey that will not fit either.

I have a Blue Lake and I had a Yellow Loogey. They fit in my 2005 racks no problem, with room to spare. I know they switched up the clamps a bit in 2006, but I didn't think it made them that much smaller?

Both the Yellow Loogey and Blue Lake fit my 2006 racks too.

I put my red woody in my racks no problem either. But I have the 06 with the older clamps as well

My Red Woody fits in my 07 X2 stock racks. The problem is that it's only good in there up to about 25 MPH. Past that it starts moving around. I'd hate to lose an expensive board so I just store it in under the passenger seat.
I was looking at the Endless Wave racks but decided to buy a new board insead. Maybe later this year if all goes well.

I don't have the Red Woody. I have the Red Tide I thought the board was the same with just a new graphic and a name change, but it is not. There is no way board will fit in the rack. I could get the yellow loogey to fit, but I would have to force it and would worry it would cause damage to the board.

And you have the clamping board racks? And the clamps are open, correct? All 3 of those boards should fit no problem. Something isn't right. Please post a picture.

I've had my red woody, my blue lake and my brother's black pearl in my racks at one time or another. 07 Maristar with the X2 package with stock clamp style racks. Biggest problem I've had is keeping them in there past 25 - 30 MPH.

Some of the thickest boards are the begineer boards like the Hyperlite Landlock. Just measured ours and the required opening would be 1-3/4" thick. Other boards measured have the the following rack opening requirements:
Phase V Drew Danielo: 1-1/8"
Hyperlite Broadcast: 1"
Ronix Caption: 1"
Some of the pads can be fairly thick. Some of the above boards have a concave bottom, so the board thickness differs from the required rack opening space. All measurements were taken from the top of the pad to the bottom of the wakesurfer utilizing a straight edge perpendicular across the bottom and top of the boards and measuring the distance between the straight edges.

How do you x-star guys like to weight your boat for wakesurfing?

Here are two pictures of my rack. One is with the board wedge in as far as it will go and there is no way I could clamp it down. The other is the measurements of my rack. The red tide is 2 1/4" thick.
