In looking for a cover online for my 2000 X-Star, I find that no one has a cover for the 2000. Some places say it fits 2000 - 2001 but from what I can research the 2000 has a different tower than the 2001. Can someone clarify if the towers are the same thus the same cover will fit both and can you suggest where to get the cover and what to look for in a cover?

Thanks.

Rick

The towers are not the same on the 2000 and 2001, your best bet would probably be to contact the local dealer

I had a wonderful experience with these folks. While pricey, it's been worth every penny!

Thanks for your information, I checked out the skiboatcovers.com and they have the correct cover and $100 less than the dealer.

I searched everywhere for a new cover for my 2000.

The cheapest place i found for an exact fit cover was iboats.com. They had an exact fit custom cover available that will cover the factory swim platform and has the tower cutouts specifically cut for your boat. The cover also comes with the cinch strap option so it stays super snug and is a breeze to put on. They had a sale when I bought mine for around $300 and some change IIRC in the Sharkskin. Sharksin is what material that MC uses on their factory covers. You could also upgrade that to Sunbrella. The only thing I would do different is order 2 vent poles. I originally only ordered one vent pole and I ended up ordering a second so I would encourage you to get 2.

I remember the cover being tricky to locate on iboats and the Westland site. For some reason the X-Star model especially the 2000yr on certain searches did not show up, but on other days it would. I know for sure they still make it as I just ordered one before winter storage came around. I would call them they were great to work with or call the mfg direct. The cover is from Westland and the part number was MC5041. This was with the option added to cover the factory swim platform. My exact model number was MC5041SRE (meaning Sharkskin Red). If iboats doesn't have it again call Westland direct. These exact-fit covers from Westland are OEM on Centurion/Supreme/Sanger so they are great quality and have great customer service. Iboats was just cheaper on the cover than going directly through the mfg at the time because they were having a sale.

I searched everywhere. Without going to a complete custom shop and dropping 2k or so so a Rankin or other custom this was by far the best option if you ask me at a pricepoint.

As for the tower situation the tower was the same from 99-2000 and then in 01 it was changed. So a cover that says it fits both 2000's and 2001's is obviously mismarked. That 99-00 tower is like the red headed stepchild for biminis and covers. They are next to impossible to find and only a very select few companies made a cover or bimini to fit.

Check with Rankin, Coversports, and Evolution covers. They are top of the line, exact fit, and trailerable. No poles required and drum tight.

The Evolutiions are def top notch. That was the name that slipped my mind next to Rankin. I know 2 people with the Evolutions. They are very very slick covers and fit perfectly with zero poles as mentioned. Just here in Chicago in the colder weather times that Evolution gets to be a tough fit as it becomes a little less pliable and stretchy in the cold.

Aren't the rub rail hooks adjustable. Both Corey at Evolution and Brent at Coversports are former Rankin employees. So from looking at them (and owning a coversports cover), they all look pretty similar. On my cover, the rubrail hooks are velcro'd (substantially) to the cover. So as the cover ages and stretches, you can adjust the tension to keep the cover tight.

doug, to answer your question, yes they "hooks" are adjustable!
