I have a 2005 X45 w/ an LQ9. When I pull someone in a tube the boat seems to surge back and forth consistantly. It is so bad that we quit pulling a tube behind the boat last weekend. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not sure what the problem could be.

we have the probelm with our too, its moisture inside the disributor cap, but you should have an electronic ignition, and moisture would't effect that. If it turns out you have points and not a digital ignition, put one in, and your problem should be fixed.

Sounds like you should drop it off at the dealer when the weather looks to be bad for a few days.

How bad is the hesitation? If EFI, does it seem to run rich, smoke heavy white smoke about 2" off lake with small amount of gas film floating on top of water after coming back down to idle speed?

I'm not sure about it running rich or the smoke. I'll have to try it again and watch for that. It pulls a skier and a wakegoarder fine. But I know a tube probably puts more strain on the motor. I'm calling the dealer tomorrow to have them come pick it up. I'll be out of town for the weekend so they will have plenty of time to figur it out.

If you have Perfect Pass, there is a problem with it hunting the speed you have programmed. The company PP sent out a small wire for 04's to fix a similar problem. My 04 with PP does it if I have the speed control set for 28-30, but only run around 15-20, that's why it's hunting the higher speed, but the throttle is too low. I'm guessing you were pulling tubers at the lower speeds.
Good luck!

when we first got the PS190, my wife pulled me at 40!
wasn't a pretty sight when I tumbled, hanging way out of the wake on a sharp turn:steering:

There is no distributor with the LQ9 engine!

Was Perfect Pass on? The filter from them that fixed the 2004 issues won't work here.

No perfect pass was not on. It does fine when i'm pulling a wakeboarder or a skier it's just the tuber I have problems with.
