First off I'd like to say hi to everybody, I've been a lurker here for a while and have gotten some helpful advice just from reading other posts. Unfortunately today I had some problems and was hoping someone here could help me out.

When starting my boat up for the first time this year, we had problems first with the battery and ended up having to replace the starter at the dealership. First time out on the water yesterday she started up and everything seems fine. After a minute I notice the gauges start acting strange - left speedo reads 50 and the right doesnt seem accurate, and within 5 minutes they are all dead. This is all the mechinical gauges, not the depth finder or radio.
So today I'm out on the water and I turn the key to turn the boat off, and it's still running. I move it back and forth and it turns off, but the next time I start it it won't shut down. Even with the saftey lanyard removed the boat is still running. I ended up having to cover the air filter with a towel until it shut down.

I'm assuming I have some electrical problems, between the gauges and whatever is causing the key to not turn the boat off. I don't know where to start or what to check, does anyone have suggestions for something relatively simple to look for, or is this a bigger problem that I should have checked out at the dealership?

Thanks a lot for any help

Tyler

I believe that I would take it back to the dealer. It seems that they might have something amiss on the starter. We had a tractor that we had to cross the posts on the solenoid to start and it would not shut down a lot of the times, but we did have a way to shut it down besides starving it of air.

Welcome.
