Hi Guys, We have had The worst Winter here in The UK for a Long Time. Its Freezing and has been for ages, We don't normally have it like this. My Question is, Is it Possible my engine can be damaged from this cold weather alone. Ps 190 f351, Drained both petcocks of water on each Block, Drained Manifolds and undid all hoses and impeller. As well as The usual stuff, But No Antifreeze. I read on this site if there is no water in there it cant freeze and damage. Or can it ? and should I be worried that I didn't add Antifreeze. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

As long as all the water is out you'll be fine. You don't need RV if all the water is out, we use it as a flush to ensure that all the water is out of the block and manifolds and actually drain it out as well. In the event that the RV got diluted or was not a "good" batch you wouldnt want the liquid in there either.

We dont normally down south. Scotland where I Am from is much more colder in the winter, but this year the whole of the UK is Freakin Cold and snow and ice right now. Roll on Spring.

I've always heard that with the engine sitting at an angle it's not a bad idea to drive around the neighborhood, up and down hills to allow the water in the rear of the engine to go forward and out the drains. Otherwise it may still be in the rear of the block and effect the freeze plugs on the block inside the bellhousing should it freeze and expand.

I've been to Scotland during November, it was pretty chilly thats for sure. I didnt get any skiing in while I was there but I couldnt help but imagine it on a couple of the lochs. I have some family in Dumbarton, my grandpa was born there and moved to the U.S. as a kid.

You Will no doubt have visited Loch Lomond then, Very Nice place and for watersports too. We are at Lochearn and just as nice. They're both not too far apart so next time your over you can ski / board the two. Brilliant ;)

Sorry, I factually disagree - the 351 ford sits at an angle that I believe it is left side, will not totally drain out - it is the side with the petcock toward the front. I had this happen last year after draining and then my mechanic found it in spring. Popped a freeze plug, which was lucky - 20 year old freeze plugs don't always slide out when they are frozen like the rest of the block. You need to get antifreeze in a Ford 351 - ALWAYS!!

The official MC manual for my '89 TriStar with the 351 mentions nothng about antifreeze.

They recommend thorough draining of heads, block, and hoses. Then they recommend (I thought this was cool, sort of a homey touch) placing the manifold drain plugs in a plastic bag and attaching it to the shift lever.

Remember our beloved MasterCrafts are manufactured south of the Mason-Dixon line. The weather tends to get a tad cooler on the north side of the line.

Too Late for me now! Even if I wanted to put Antifreeze in it would make no difference.
Never had it in last year either Tho The winter was not as bad as now, It was still frosty.
A Tad worried again

I think the anti-freeze thing is overkill. It does decrease rust formation, and does keep all the little pools of water in there from freezing, but the latter doesn't hurt anything. Expansion in a closed space is what freeze damage to an engine is about. Draining an engine block without using antifreeze is fine.

If the drain plugs are out and left out it should prevent expansion to the point of damage with or without antifreeze.

I install the anti-freeze because our lake water is crystal clear one week, then full of silt and dirt after a big rain. The anit-freeze keeps the pockets of crud from hardening up and forming rust and blockages (at least I hope so!). And I thought we had it bad in Virginia with record cold temperatures and the largest snow fall amount in a 24 hour period. At least we don't have to worry about falling iquanas like you guys in Florida. I think Al Gore needs to check into this rather than searching for "Man-bear-pig"! http://www.justnews.com/video/22153242/index.html
