I've got a 87 PS 190 with a ford 351 , Closed cooling & am lacking power when pulling up skiers & smelling unburnt gas in the exhaust, is this a carb problem or a distributor issue? I've got a machanic coming next weds to tune it up, but would like to have all the parts for this issue before he shows up!

It could be either one. Start with your points if your boat has them and make sure they are good. My 85 did the same thing last year and I had a set of bad points, a broke spring in the distributor, and then a blown power valve in the carb. A carb kit and an electronic ignition with new springs for the distributor and my boat runs like new.
