When the 300 was first released many of the people on this board, many of which own older (80's and 90's prostars etc) had expressed how Mastercraft had lost its way and voiced concern that the company had branched off in a radical way from its ski boat lineage. It was my point that if those complaining about MC having to try to find new sources of revenue by trying to tap new markets and indeed manufacturing boats that were not of the ski boat variety should step up to the plate and purchase new ski boats. That if the company could not keep up with the orders of Prostar 190's that in fact the need to diversify would not exist. In a nut shell support the company in doing what it has always done (the thing you think it should be doing) and it would not need to change it's ways. This of course is coming also from a guy who loves the old boats and thinks the 300 is pretty cool as well. If it keeps MC profitable I say great. It only means they will be here to manufacturer the ski boats we all love, our used boats will hold their value and the growth and support of the sport will continue.

I was at fanfare a month or so ago and that boat was being torn apart to finalize designs, so I couldn't drive it, but it looks sweet. I was suprised that no one knew (or would tell me) final specs, but it sounds like it's gonna be about 22'5''. I was told it is NOT the exact same hull as the CSX 220 (which is 21'5''), just very similar. So, it's probably a bit bigger than an X15, but picklefork.
If I didn't live on a relatively small lake (200 acres), and if I had been able to drive this boat, I would have seriously considered it. But, I think an X2 will fit this lake better, so that's what I ordered.
But, can't wait to see this boat finalized. I think it will be very popular.

Except that a lot of the enthusiasts can't afford to buy a new Prostar. What does a new 197 cost? $35k with a single axle trailer? You can't blame Mastercraft for branching in to other areas to make money...but you also can't blame the average weekend skier for the lack of new boat sales in the ski/wakeboat market.

Anyone want to take a guess? - street price, not MSRP.
My guess is $75-$80K with standard stuff like tower, stereo (couple of tower speakers), tandem trailer, speed control, standard ballast.
Next question. Do you think this will eventually replace another model or two and if so, which one(s)?

Of course specific price discussion is not permitted on the forum....and I have no idea of exactly what one will sell for. But I'd have to guess it's a bit more than a CSX 220. And as of a year or so ago those were going for about $75K. So I'd guess the 225 will be closer to $85K w/ some goodies.

That is one well thought out machine. I too will be looking at this when it comes time to replace my X-30. There are alot of great features in this boat. Some of my early favorites are: pickle fork bow (love it), back rest behind the driver's seat, hinged seat bases and the two observers seats at the rear of the sunpad. However, after watching the You Tube video a few times (ok - 10 times), I've noticed a few things that I don't necessarily care for. Those are: having to open the entire sunpad to get anything out of the rear storage compartments that are bigger than a rope or vest. I have 4 very large fenders and there's no way they are going in or coming out of those two tiny access doors builts into the sunpad. Also, I hope MC plans on providing a pad to fill in the center walkway on the sunpad. We hang out on ours all the time. Lastly, while the two flip up seats at the rear of the sunpad are cool, in the state of Washington, sitting in those locations while the boat is underway is a hugh ticket. All hands and feet must be in the boat while the boat is moving. Overall, I think MC has a great product with the X-25. I'll definately be looking at this and comparing it to the X-45.

okay, so there is a ton of talk about how great this hull is/will be for boarding and surfing, but can anyone comment about skiing? obviously it is by no means a slalom boat... not by a long shot, but how will it compare to other v drives?
here is my situation: i have my x2 on order, but am strongly considering switching to this boat. in the past i have mainly done skiing and while i can pretty consistently deep water start, i have never run a course nor do i plan to start. instead, i really want to get more into boarding and start surfing. but, i can't imagine my parents, for example, picking up boarding, so if they are recreational skiers, am i doing them a huge disservice by choosing this boat?
i thought i had eliminated this boat from contention at fanfare last month because they thought it was actually longer than the CSX 220-- closer to 22'5''-- and while i haven't seen final specs posted officially anywhere, it seems it is actually more like 21'5''. is that what everyone else is hearing? i'm a bit concerned about the extra foot and half on my 200 acre lake, but i am reminded that at 21'5'', this boat would be smaller (shorter anyway) than an X15 or Malibu VLX which i was also considering
please help me out if you have any insights

I have a CSX, which is direct drive. Unless they have some trim tabs on the X25, or something else to help- skiing would be a bit tough IMO. For everything else you do- this hull rocks! Hugh wake with stock ballast- can actually scare some people who are really good riders the first time they see it. Monster.

What are your parents used to skiing behind? If they normally ski behind 20+ ft. stern drives, then they won't mind the X25. If they are used to skiing behind Prostars or SNs, then the X25 will be disappointing.

Agree on the slalom part if that's most important, but the size of the lake doesn't mean anything in this discussion IMO. How many people you typically ride with and want to accomodate in the boat would be the main drivers for me. You have way more space, or it least if really feels more spacious, in the CSX, X15, VLX or X25 than in the X2. The X2 is great, but can't compete with living room space like the others, and has a similar draft, so who cares how big the lake is....

Big lakes = big boats, more traffic, and the wind will have a bigger effect. The X25 will handle the chop of a big lake better than the X2.

Fine, but I quoted your post, which stated "the size of the lake doesn't mean anything in this discussion". Clearly, the size of the lake IS a factor.
I also disagree with your interpretation of JohnE's post. He only mentioned that on a small lake the X2 is a better fit for some one who wants to slalom with their boat.

size of the boats he's looking at don't mean anything for the lake he's using it on. How he uses the boat is more important. Nothing to get snippy about either way.
Happy New Year.
