.....might have to take back my previous post. I have yet to receive any email correspondence from Dennis at Trailer Tire Warehouse. I have spoken to him this evening, and apparently, mine weren't shipped today. How convenient. He said they may go out Wednesday at 4 pm or so.........mind you, he's had my money since Monday at 7 am. Not sure about the rest of you guys, but this sounds like one of those things........if it sounds too good to be true, it prolly is! I advised him that if I did not have email correspondence from him by 8 am tomorrow, I'd be contacting paypal and his business asking for a full refund. I'd like the wheels, but don't get me wrong, I'd rather not get screwed either. If someone placed an order Monday morning, and was told they'd ship if I placed it soon enough, only to then find out, mine and someone else's didn't get done. He took my order over the phone, so after being told they'd ship, and then find out otherwise almost 2 days later........we'll have to wait til tomorrow. Anyone else had problems w/this guy?

I would not worry about it! Give the guy a day or two to ship everything out. This is kind of an "off week" for businesses and he maybe running a skeleton crew. So far I'm happy, I've received emails all along the way, my original ship date was yesterday but I received an email stating it would be delayed one day.

I've been on the hunt for a matching aluminum wheel for the new boat spare since I bought it.
Ordered one from Dennis at trailertirewarehouse with a tire. Shipping has been delayed because he ran out of tires, but he got in touch with me right away and explained what was going on. $65 for a wheel or $130+ for new tire and matching wheel is a great deal.

Mine arrived today. They came with the open center caps and valve stems installed. My only complaint is that the engraved Mastercraft lettering is slightly different on each wheel. 2 are pretty close but 1 has noticeably thicker lettering. Not enough to worry about for the price in my opinion, still a big upgrade over the originals.

Having spent plenty of years in the aftermarket wheel industry, you can safely bet that these are blems. Structurally sound, but comesiticly challenged - not first line wheels. Often times the buyer is not aware of the fact they are buying blems until they try to claim a warranty, and find out there is none.

I agree that these are probably blems / rejects. The indented lettering is the problem, 1 is perfectly normal, but the other 2 are noticeably thinner.

With my single axle trailer you would have to really pay attention to notice it. They are a lot better than my current wheels so I'll be sticking with them. It does seem that this should have been disclosed in the ad though.

For the price? Maybe but not only are the letters wierd they are not centered? On that wheel if done correctly they should follow the contour of the spoke, not just be stamped straight. Now as I digress, $65.00 maybe not too bad but if misrepresented I do not care how *******much it costs, do it correctly!;)

Covi
01-06-2010, 06:56 AM
Thay are centered on the spoke. They do follow the contour. Tough to see in the pic. The issue I think is in the lettering quality itself.

TMCNo1
01-06-2010, 09:00 AM
IIRC, the wheels are either cast or forged and the lettering it part of the initial forming process. Then when the wheels are machined and there was an imperfection in the mold or form the material machined away may/will leave the letters shallow in places depending how much additional machining is done because of other casting/forging imperfections that may have developed also. Also if the machining tool is dull it can leave the edges of the letters jagged as seen in some of the photos and when colored like on the machined wheels the letters will look like crap after they are clear coated or anodized. When the chrome wheels are prepared for chroming, they are polished and buffed prior to plating and most times the edges of the letters on the chrome wheels are cleaned up by the polishing/buffing process and not colored because the paint will not stick well to the chrome, therefore you most likely won't see the imperfections in the lettering as bad.
Apparently rather than recycle the imperfect wheels after all that material, machine time and labor involved in the production and QC determines they are not first grade wheels, they are sold as blems at a discount to someone for sale at discount priced, much like you can find Wrangler jeans for $10 that have a slight material or stitching imperfection or even blemished tires.

Doing that would cut through the clear coat and you would quickly have peeling and corrosion to deal with. A better solution would be to paint the letters. You could even paint until the level of paint was flush with the wheel face.

So looking at thse wheels (the polished aluminum ones) are the spokes a straight 5 spoke or are they "twisted" like a fan blade? 'Cause they don't look like a straight 5 spoke, which is what my 2006 wheels are.
Are these for an earlier or later model trailer than 06? Most of the early/mid 2000's trailers I've seen have straight 5 spoke wheels. Don't really want the one I have on order if it's different, plus wouldn't there be separate left and right wheels or are they just different on the R and L side of the trailer?

I got a steelie wheel off my sled trailer that I painted black for my spare now. Looks pretty darn good. At least it's not "supposed" to match and for $29 I can get a Mastercraft spare tire cover anyway. If the new wheels we're buying don't match what I got on the trailer then not sure I want it. Got a couple days to decide since Dennis said he's not getting more tiers in until the 11th.

After etching paint it.

Anytime the clearcoat is compromised, it will eventually get some moisture under it and it will begin to separate from the wheel. The paint may seal it for a while, but eventually it would come back to bite you.

Guys, I must admit, Dennis at Trailer Tire Warehouse is committed to Customer Satisfaction. With that said, he sent me an email explaining the info about the wheels. They manufacture the wheels for Mastercraft to be used on their trailers. They've been doing so for many years, with no problems to date. He explained they are die cast, poured into a mold. The wheels are not seconds, blem's or otherwise. I advised him after I mount a tire and get 'em on the trailer, mine should be fine too. Again, I have to give credit, and a bunch of it, when it's due. Not often do you find a business that is concerned about service after the sale anymore. This place is, and I owe it to Dennis that it's that way. Just wanted to pass on the info. If anyone has any questions, get w/me.

justinglow

I to have spoke with Dennis. I never had a problem with mine but he sent me an e-mail to make sure I was happy. Below is what it said. I would not have a problem recommending him or buying from him again.

Dennis wrote.......

1. The wheels are not seconds or blems, they are the exact same wheels that were manufactured for, and purchased by, MasterCraft for their factory trailers. They are original equipment.
2. The reason for the special deal is to clear inventory that is setting in the warehouse (i.e., overstock)
3. They are manufactured by a company with a long standing relationship with MasterCraft. There have been zero issues with these wheels and in fact, there has yet to be a wheel ever returned to the manufacturer for a problem.
4. This company is highly regarded and manufactures wheels for a number of major automobile manufacturers.
5. The logo's are part of the mold and are generated when the wheels are cast. They are not machine cut after the fact. This is to the MasterCraft specification. If there were to be any variations from wheel to wheel, it would be very slight and certainly not noticeable when mounted on a trailer. The logo appears in the same spot on every wheel. (someone suggested they were "stamped on")

Well it's 25 degrees here in Dallas this morning. I got up pulled the boat out took the old wheels off and went and had the new ones mounted and just put it back together. I like it!

Those wheels look fantastic!

Tires went on the wheels last week. Over the weekend the wheels went on the trailer. IMO I think they look great. What a difference from the 86' black powder coat steel.

I would like to thank you for posting this. The wheels that was on my boat looked ok from a distance, but up close you could tell that they needed replacing. I have wanted to replace them for a few years, but could not afford it and also did not know what to get. The price convinced me to work several weeks of overtime to get them. Thanks again. Pictures before and after.

Those wheels definitely dress up the trailer. I couldn't be happier with mine.
