Are there any Sportstar aficionados out there? I have a '92 PS 205 and am thinking of a modest upgrade to say a 1999. The Sportstar looks similar to my 205, but I'm wondering what the wake characteristics are like.

The appeal of this boat is that it is fuel injected, and 310 hp (slightly more than my 285 HO Ford).

I have not seen many Sportstar's, so I am wondering if MC made only a handful of these.

IIRC the Sportstar is based on the 95-97 ProStar hull. It wasn't offered with all the options that the original had but was less expensive.

i was wondering the same thing. there are a few of those on our lake and the only thing i really notice is it looks like they have higher gunnwales. but then again, didn't the later 90's prostars have the same higher gunnwales? i kinda liked them for that reason.

personally, you have one of the best slalom wakes.
and yes, its based off the 95-97 hull. good boat... pretty darn good wake and a less chine spray.

As I look out my window, I see snow flakes cutting across the lake. Now I have some great reading material to pass 4 months of winter (I'm a slow reader)!

Thanks for the info.

My ski buddy owns a "99 Sportstar and I own a "99 Prostar 205. Both are great boats to ski behind. His slalom wake is "slightly" better than mine, but my wakeboard wake is "slightly" better than his. The 310 HP in his boat is great and it never suffers for power and to me it handles better than my 205 probably due to it's smaller size. It feels more like a sportscar. Fit and finish is good on the Sportstar, but it is a little more bare bones than my Prostar. Hope that helps.:)

It looks higher in the water because of the stripe. It is dimensionally the same as the previous ProStar.

I admit that I am looking to upgrade my PS 205 to gain EFI and a smoother ride. Based on what I have read so far, it sounds like I simply need to upgrade to the 2nd generation PS 205 hull, say a 1996 or higher. I skied behind a 2002 PS 209 and thought that the wake at 34 mph, 15 off was noticeable worse than my PS 205. I'm guessing that the wake on the PS 205V would be similar to the PS 209, and that the Maristar would be comparable to the PS 209.

My primary use is skiing, but I could use a little more space as long as I don't sacrifice too much on the wake.

The 209 wake sucks but if you're just free skiing it's fine.

The slalom wake on the 205V is better than the 209. The 209 bottom is based off of the Maristar 210, the 205V bottom is based off of the 205. Big difference.

The Sportstar will have a better slalom wake than either of them, but the ride won't be better than the 205V.
