Ok, so which MC throws the best surf wake? Show us some pictures to back your argument!

Best one I have been behind is a loaded down X-45! Big wake, long pocket. Sorry, no pics.

JD - nice shot. Love how the rubrail is about 3" from the water.

Can you tell me how 'fairly loaded down' the port side was? Do you have the wake plate, and where was it set?

If i remember correctly we had the kgb and port ballast full and the starboard side half full. We also had appr. 500 lbs of lead in port locker. 4 adults sitting in the rear. The wake plate wasn't down. Running 10.5 mph.

So it wasn't an overly enormous amount of weight, compared to what i've read about but plenty nonetheless.

Not my pic, but I here's an argument for an X 55.....

Nice! I'd suspect the bigger the boat, the better the surf wake you can achieve. The deeper self bailing hulls of the x35 and x55 I would think have a distinct advantage.

DAMN X-55!!! Just saw one at the dealer and they are pretty sweet, serious party boat!

Not the best picture, this is behind my x-star (before i knew how to properly weigh it down)

Man, It's wakes like that that get the "Ban those boats" people started. Personally makes me want to buy that boat.

FWIW, that pic came from MYMC. He posted it a while back. Something like 3k pounds of ballast iirc.

X2 makes a great surf wake with some bags!

Here's my 09 X2 Surf Wake. Full portside stock and flyhigh, full stock KGB and front flyhigh. Nobody in the boat except for a driver, so pretty light.

Do you have a wake plate on your boat? I've got a 2006 and have never been able to clean up the top of the wake consistently. Pretty much the same setup up ballast wise extra Fly High sack in port locker and bow sack in the front.

Yes I have the plate. Before I added the flyhigh, I would put the plate about 25% down for surfing. Now that I fill the KGB and fwd flyhigh, I'm able to run the plate all the way up.

My friend has an 07' without the plate, and we have a harder time cleaning it up. He has flyhigh as well. Same ballast config, but without the plate - the wake is not as clean. When we surf the 09' with the plate, we can see 'the hole' under the platform. The plate is visible, the exhaust, etc. On the 07', the plume develops as soon as it crosses under the transom, and there is no hole. He used to have a fiberglass platform - that was really bad. Now he has the teak, and it's better, but still not as clean as the boat with the plate.

Here's the best comparison I could find that both had surfers in them for reference - similar angles from 2 different boats. One is from my 09' X2 with the wake plate. The other is from the 07' X2 without the plate. Similar ballast setups and speeds. This was before the 07' got the teak platform, which did reduce some of the wash - but still not as clean as the plated 09'.

One advantage to having 2 late model X2's sitting at the same dock. Each seems to have it's strengths. The plated X2 seems to be the better setup for surfing. We've been able to get a cleaner wake out of the 09'. It's also the boat of choice for slalom and footing. The 07 with no plate is better for wakeboarding and riding the airchair.

An X2 with no plate is NOT the same as an X2 with one in the UP position. That plate even in the up position changes the wake characteristics over a plateless boat.

I will play...another vote for the X-45. Sorry to not have a better picture, I keep uploading the same one over and over.

My wife is 5'9" for reference...so not some little gymnast on the wave.

X55 wins this without trying real hard...the pics were taken with a full enzo bag, with Maeghan driving and me taking pictures. X35 & CSX220 are tied in 2nd.

FWIW, the X55 is easiest boat we have run for wakeboarding and surfing, anyone can ride behind it...fantastic boat. Maeghan has ordered another from MC and she gets her pick so that should tell you something.

At CSM 2009 Josh Palma said he had never ridden behind a wake that nice, nor had he surfed a boat so easy and big.

In the words of Ferris Buehler "if you get the chance to pick one up I highly recommend it, they are so choice".
