View Full Version : Ski Route from last night and this morning
Here is a quick route I made from GPS collected last night and this morning, over some orthophotos.

Can you guess where the course is?
Here is a Google Maps link to the lake.

For a second, I wondered why you couldn't see the slalom turns on the GPS track. Duh, he wasn't holding onto the GPS while he was skiing. Sorry, I'm awake now. Cool!

I thought he was missing a few myself.

How do you do that? Besides using a GPS of course...

Download a google satellite map of your watering hole to paint. Draw some squiqilly lines on there. Upload to Team Talk. 8p
I'm presuming he can link his handheld GPS to his desktop. Mine Garmin is too basic to uplink to the 'puter.
I generated the image from GIS(Geographic Information Systems), I used a cheap Garmin eTrex Legend GPS unit, downloaded the data using www.oziexplorer.com(which might even work with your unit East TX) and brought it into ESRI ArcGIS. I plotted the tracks the boat made over some Vermont Orthophoto’s(aerial photos corrected for distortion) available from tax department. Part of my job is teaching GIS/GPS http://gis.nitle.org/. I thought you would all enjoy it. Drop me an email if you have specific questions. Jamie

I may have the same Garmin unit. Can't remember. $99 and yellow?
Didn't think I could upload maps, so didn't figure I could download them either. My last GPS was a little more sophisticated (Garmin Street Pilot Colormap), but I sold it to finance perfect pass. Gotta have priorities.

that image makes me really glad they didn't have GPS when I was a teenager and was busy roaming the streets:eek3:

You left it on for the drive home too???
E. TX, if your unit came with a cable to connect to your computer(usually serial port) I bet Ozi will allow you to download the tracks.
I did leave it one, I tracked my entire route for the day as an example for the workshop I am leading. Jamie

While it may have the connection (need to look), it didn't come with any cables.
