If you are teaching someone that weighs about 185#, how to run the course, what speed would you start at? 28mph 30mph 32mph?????? Oh, we is using 15' off, not the full rope.

I started at 28 mph, but the problem was that the wake changes with the speed. I found it easier when I got up to 30.

32 is too fast if they are just learning.

Are they experienced at skiing just not the course?

If they can open water cut and hold edge through the wakes, I'd go 32, if they didn't get it there, i'd go 28 but consider the ski size. I ski a 66" ski and at 28 mph I have pushed the tip under on the way outbound. Which does not feel good.

I'd say start at 28-30 depending on the size of their ski also start at 15 off.

Slower the better.Nobody learn to run the course at 32 mph or they have great great athletic skills.
Learning proper technique at slower speed will take you a long way when come time to speed the boat.:)

Most ski schools will start you out at 24 to 26 mph, long line, teach the proper pull out and approach to the gates, giving you time to get your rhythm, think about and learn proper body/handle position and ball negotiation, then increase speed up to 28 to 32mph, then shorten the line to 15 off after you've mastered the basics.
