I bought a 2000 Mastercraft Maristar 230 VRS earlier in the spring and I have a question about the engine. Its a Vdrive. The dealership listed it as having a 2000 Indmar 310 HP engine. However right on the top of the engine it says LTR 330 HP with Northstar Ignition. On both sides of the engine on the exhaust manifold it says Mastercraft. Also I found a sticker on one side that has the following:
350 LTR V-DR Y2k
957234
LOT/SERIAL: IC967394

Also on the Engine Block it says GM 5.7

I did some google searches and I can't seem to find any information on this specific engine. I couldn't find anything about it on the Indmar site, but I couldn't find anything on the engine that says Indmar. The sticker doesn't match up with the engine models on the Indmar or Mastercraft websites.

Any ideas? Who makes this engine? Where do I find an owners manual?

If it has a round flame arrestor that's about 8" in diameter under a black plastic shroud and what looks a lot like a regular carb on top of the motor, it's the TBI Predator. If it has a large gray or black piece on top with a plastic flame arrestor with fine metal fins facing the front of the boat, it's an LTR. They both use the same block. If the serial number is on a white sticker on the oil pan, you can call MC or Indmar and give tell them the serial number, so they can tell you which motor it is. The hull ID number will also allow MC to tell you what it was shipped with. Some dealers have been known to put a different motor in a boat when a buyer requests it.

Its flat and black on the top and that's where it says LTR 330 HP. I think its fuel injected because I don't see a flame arrestor anywhere. Those numbers were on small white sticker on the oil pan. I wish I could have called them but I just started digging into this tonight.

That's definitely the LTR. Look at the intake plenum (the large black piece that says 'LTR'- on the end that's not rounded, you should see where the throttle body is and the flame arrestor is mounted on that.

I'm not there to check it right now. So who makes this engine? Where can I find an owners manual for it?

The motor is built by Indmar. I just got a manual for mine from The Motor Bookstore.com. Item # B805 "Indmar Inboard Repair Manual GM V-8 Engines 1983-2003" It was $31.01 shipped.

Does yours look anything like this: If it does than the proper thing would be to go back to the Dealer and tell him you have more horspower than advertised and you want some $Cash returned because your boat is now wayyy to fast...

I have the same boat, same engine as you. Good setup and I can't see ever needing more engine/horsepower for our hull size. It's a Chevy 350, 4-bolt main, roller cam, Vortec head.

Indmar outfits the engine with the injection, waterpump, etc. Some specs in the link. Google Indmar LTR 330 for a little more.

Heres something that East Tx Skier posted:

From www.mymastercraft.com with some additions from TT forum discussion.

Here is a simple guide to reading your hull ID. There are some exceptions to this due to last minute order changes so PLEASE view this as a GUIDELINE. Example: MBCAXAA1K304 The MBC (first three positions) stands for... you guessed it MasterCraft Boat Company. Position 4 = Engine type A= 5.7 TBI 1:1, C= 5.7 TBI PowerSlot, T= 8.1, H= 8.1 VRS, M= MCX 1:1, N= MCX 1.56 or VRS, U= 6.0 1:1, Z= 6.0 VRS Position 5 = Boat type A= PS190, B= PS190TT, C=PS197TT, X=PS197, T=PS209, V=MS230, U=MS210, L=X-Star, H=MS280, 2=PS205V Positions 6,7 and 8 Sequential serial number (never repeated in a model year) Position 9 = Month made A=JAN, B=FEB, C=MAR, D=APR, E=MAY, F=JUN, G=JUL, H=AUG, I=SEP, J=OCT, K=NOV, L=DEC Position 10 = Year made Use the last digit of the year made. In the example above the year made would be 2003 but the boat is a 2004 model. Positions 11 & 12 = Model Year The last two digits of the model year go here. The above example is a 2004.

As for engine/transmission combos for older boats.
U = 351 HO with 1:1
P = 351 with 1.5:1
S = 351 with 1:1

Those pictures look almost identical to the engine I have. The shape of the top is exactly the same. The only difference is my engine says LTR on the top. Andy my exahaust manifold doesn't say SilentMaster on it.

Thanks a lot for all the info.

So I'm assuming since it is Indmar the owners manual on the indmar site should apply?

I have read this before and something doesn't add up. According to this my boat has a 6.0 with a 1:1 tranny and I have "S" listed for position 5. Unless "S" has something to do with my boat being an anniversary boat (190) and position #4 the same thing (LT-1, 350 HP 1:1) then this doesn't work on my boat. Just wondering.
