Unreal - great stuff, but really:( another $1690 for speaker grills on my boat, 16 w/tweeter grills plus sub, that's outrages!!! Don't get me wrong, I think all of it done right is bad a&% but at those prices I wish them the best of luck. If I remember correctly, I think that was the list price for all 4 MC speaker/cans, 2 w/lights.

You remembered wrong... they are 1600/pr. I agree though, the prices are sky high. I would seriously consider outfitting my rig with these products if the prices seem logical.

I have had some of my aluminum components off of my 40th X-Star anodized locally and it is A LOT cheaper than this stuff. Although, my hat is off to MC/Gere Marie for offering something like this to customers as I think it is fair to see that we MC owners like to be able to customize our rides. It wouldn't be so hard to swallow as a "slight" upcharge when ordering your new boat, but to have to order all new components for your existing boat seems kind of silly. Just find a reputable anodizer in your area and have them customize your ride. Just my thoughts...

To everyone with older boats, let me know what you would like to see offered for your boat and we may be able to offer it. No promises but it will defiantly be addressed.

Also, all of the parts on MasterCraftByDesign.com are painted with an automotive finish, the only parts that will come anodized are just the standard silver.

I would like to see some custom stuff for the Anniversary boats. Obviously my opinion is a little biased, however I wouldn't be afraid to add a little customization to my already unique MC.

John,

I do not have THAT old of a boat, but it would be nice if the new parts went back a couple years.

One item that I would like to see ASAP is a billet horn cover. That rinky dink chromed tin metal think is a joke.

Good news guys, we did at one time make one. I just brought this up in our meeting and engineering decided to take a look at the old design, upgrade it and run them. I will make them available within 2 weeks on the site and I will also post a thread with a picture of it. They will be available in 8 colors as well as silver anodized and should be relatively inexpensive.

John, how about a billet MC center cap plug for those who run a open ended center cap on their spare tire/wheel like in Sodar's picture, or better yet, a whole closed end MC billet center cap.
BTW, the plain black plastic brake actuator tube cap over the master cylinder has been know to fit and close the end of the cap, but just looked cheap.

As a saltwater MC owner who uses his boat exclusively in saltwater, the painted finish offered on these parts would concern me as the anodization process seems to be the best protection from the rigors of a salt environment.

I totally forgot I had told you about those, right?
And, I sure wish MC would make the spare tire bracket with the bolts horizontal, rather than vertical, so the wheel would center properly with the one spoke vertical on top, with the valve stem on the bottom.

I recently sold something small on Ebay. It was $11 to go by UPS, but only $2.50 by mail. $8.50 to get a tracking number for a $25 item seemed way out of range. So it went by mail. I will just have to trust he got it. Hopefully the world is full of honest people.

$13.11 for shipping to go to Southern Utah. So much for what I was told.

I guess if UPS holds true it would be around 7K to ship a custom tower to me.:rolleyes:;)

Well, John... I never said you should.

This is what makes the whole thing lame...

You post the horn covers for $29.99. And we all order them up.

After ordering, you send an email stating that you will ship them out within the week.

Then you come back to TeamTalk and revise your post to state "+shipping" after the original post was made to try to cover your @ss.

Then you tell your customers that it will only be a few dollars to ship.

Then charge your customers $12+ for shipping.

It leaves a horrible taste in my mouth and appears to be rather deceitful.

But the horn covers are nice!

I'm just curious how MC derives their speaker can prices... With my other hobby (69 Camaros), I buy a lot of billet items. I simply can't fathom how those speaker cans are worth half of the asking price. I realize they are made out of an expensive metal and the machines that produce them are very expensive. I am new to boating and MCs. I bought my first MC last winter. Is boating just inherently that much more expensive? It's the same metal and production process that can be seen in many items on my Camaro. What gives? This post is not intended to bash MC at all; I simply can't wrap my mind around the price. Someone please educate me on what I'm missing. With all the above being said, MCbydesign does make some killer pieces.

Before you flame me, I have some experience (close to 30 years) in distribution systems and study after study shows that in the long run, most small scale eCommerce environments simply shift costs from one point to another and the final cost to deliver the product to the consumer are often times more expensive in eCommerce. Both models have receiving and generally some type of warehouse movement cost (i.e. from receipts to the warehouse shelf). In retail, the receipt process is generally directly to the store shelf at which point, the consumer picks their own product and goes through some checkout routine, then delivers the product themselves in a cheap plastic bag with no packing material. The retail check out routine is generally a bit more labor intensive than eCommerce thougth some human is still verifying and proofing the transaction. Other than a few highly automated (and expensive) eCommerce merchants, someone picks the product, packs the product, and there is some human interaction in the shipment. After the merchant performs all these tasks, someone shows up (i.e. UPS, FedEx, USPS) picks it up, routes it, tracks it, delivers it, etc.

Obviously, there are advantages and disadvantages to both models. All the stuff you buy from Billy Mays (RIP) includes almost as much S&H fees as the product itself.

You may be shocked at the acutal cost to process an order and that cost is fairly static per line item included on the order no matter the selling price of the product.

With that being said, the USPS is offering to deliver for a reduced rate but that won't last for long. As with all government run agencies, they are losing their a$$.

Flame on.......

Bob,

I won't flame you. But I was only charged the actual UPS price. It is not really Mastercraft By Design's fault that UPS charged him $13.11 to ship it to me. I assume the handling and packaging was already built in to the price of the item.

It is his fault that he said it would only be a few bucks. That is what irks me. Yes, I own a 50K + boat and complain about an extra $8 in shipping. I am not totally broken down about it, but still expect to know what it is going to cost when I buy it.

From his standpoint he probably wants to ship it by UPS because he can get a tracking number and a guarantee. As I mentioned several pages ago, I sold something on Ebay for $25 and planned on UPS shipping, but the item was going to cost $12 to ship, so I sent it for $2 using USPS. I did not get a tracking number, and I can only pray the guy is honest and says he got it...if he accuses me of not sending it, I am going to have a hard time proving things.

So when the package comes, the wife does not think it is nearly as cool as I do and then asks....how much did that cost? I swallowed and told her $30.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

If John told me upfront that the shipping would be ~$12... no problems.

The way it went down is what I have the problem with.

End of griping and my story. :o

Did not realize the amount posted was only the "S" component of the "S + H" equation. I am trying to make the case for the "H" component.

UPS/FedEx remove the merchant from the proof of delivery liability even if they drop it off at your door step and do not require a signature. If you don't get the product, it is a fight between you and the shipper as they have proof somehting left their dock at it went to you which is why it costs more (and they charge you more) to track the package.

I guess the best thing to do is to post the following on their web site:

"Due to traceability and to avert possible disputes, we only use UPS and FedEx and all quoted prices do not include shipping via the aforementioned carriers. These reputible carriers charge more for their extra services."

I simply can't wrap my mind around the price.

Neither can I. I probably won't be buying much from MBD, even if something was available for an '89 TriStar.

It's all supply and demand, isn't it? My middle-age brain tells me that my life won't be any better if I buy a $40 fender or a $60 fuel filler cap.

So why not offer an option to ship USPS? "If it fits, it ships" flat rate boxes, hello.

Because it costs the merchant more to use USPS.

We ship about 150 small boxes a month to customers. UPS rate around $9. USPS rate around $3.50. Seem like a no brainer. We selected USPS. Until we found out that over the course of a year that 10% of our USPS never made it, or were damaged. No tracking, no way to recover the money for he "lost" item, and now I have a pissed off customer that I have to send out a second package via UPS. Not to mention the time my staff spends on the telephone trying to figure out what happened to the USPS shipped box.

You can say you are willing to take the risk. But, many buyers are not, and the negative impact on your business reputation when a third party shipper screws up is huge. Last year using only UPS, we had 2 damaged boxes and no lost boxes. UPS paid for the contents of both boxes, no questions asked. I could not even get the USPS post master to return my calls the year before and they lost over a 100 boxes!

I am sure that the USPS reliability varies from location to location. But, when a merchants ships across the U.S. they can not take the risk that you may or may not have a good local postal service.

No way around it, UPS is less expensive to the merchant in the long run.

I'm not sure why people think there is no way to track using USPS. I live in Canada and get royally bent over if I have anything shipped from the U.S. by UPS. I exclusively ask the merchant to ship via USPS and have never had a problem...and am always provided with tracking.

For me (being in Canada) if it comes down to paying UPS shipping and brokerage fees...I'll go without the item...no matter what it is!

If you ship USPS Parcel Post there's no tracking but if you ship Priority mail there is, always has been and it get's there in 2-3 days. I don't ship as much as vision but I do ship and I have a UPS & USPS account and prefer the latter, plus they pick it up from my front door like UPS. As for them loosing something.........there's this thing call insurance for that and it's cheap. I've never had a priority shipment get lost, but I did send something to Brasil parcel that litterally took 2 months to get there, I kept telling the guy it's probably lost and I'd refund him but he wanted it real bad and kept saying lets give it a couple days, then sure enough it shows up almost 2 months later, I couldn't believe it.

I find it really surprising that guys who own big dollor boats and spend how much on fuel each year for their boats gripe about an $11 shipping charge. I use ebay etc. a lot and have gotten pretty familiar with shipping costs, and I must say there hasn't been too many times that I was able to stay below $10.

Hi John, I have a question about the tower camera. We ordered a 2010 X2 (which is probably in production as we speak, or will be very soon). My question is, is the redesigned rope retention mechanism shown on the MBD site the one now being used on production boats? Reason I asked is b/c when we were at the factory end of last month, they were showing the little spring looking contraption being used. Definitely like the metal clamp you show on your site way better.

I used to use plywood for this but switched to tote lids. They are thin plastic and have nice rounded corners. Even the plywood left indents at the corners. The tote lids do not. They also allow the tower to go down more to clear the garage header.

Try putting a 2x6 between the top of the skipole and the stern. Then lay the tower onto the 2x6. It keeps the speakers off of the vinyl and the 2x6 just misses the vinyl.

A couple of guys around here have installed eye bolts in the cieling studs of the roof of their garage. You can then use the transom tie down straps or whatever to suspend the tower in mid air if your garage ceiling clearance does not allow you to put your tower back up after the boat's pulled in the garage.

You all should make an LED tower light like the older version below. The new style with the poly-carbonate dome is cool, but scratches easily from putting ropes on the tow point. I guess you could just make a new billet cover for the tower Nav light, in a similar design as the old MC by Design stuff...

Hey guys, if we have the item you order in stock it will ship the same day. We try to keep everything in stock but as anyone knows especially with a new retail business it is sometimes hard to do that. Most orders ship same day and if there is a problem the buyer will be contacted. Painted parts will usually ship within 72 hours of placing your order, there can be exceptions but nothing will leave our facility that isn’t of MasterCraft quality.

What MasterCraft is doing with MCBD is making it possible to customize the best tow boats in the world, something that no other boat manufacturer does. The quality of the after market parts will be aligned with the quality you would expect with a new MasterCraft, no exceptions.

Everything that was previously offered in the Pro Shop will be available on MCBD or similar items plus so much more. I understand that some people don’t like change but understand that MCBD was put in place to improve the experience of owning a MasterCraft and in time will have so much more to offer than the pro shop ever did.

If anyone has questions about the site or its future plans please PM me. Thanks!

- John

yeah I am not real big on change....Look what Change got us with this Obama guy...

That will be great if you plan on adding the old items to what you have too. I am really wanting one of the ogio back packs.

Just looked at the shirts and I think they are way better than the ones they had in the Pro Shop and I don't feel they are over priced at all. I do wish they had more of a slection of pull over hoodies! Also like the Hat/Shirt combo the other site had right before they shut down. I would say they are off to a good start!

Who are MBD using to ship? UPS actual cost to ship 2 pound box from MBD to Florida is $11.92 without any discount. I assume FEDEX would be about the same. There are regional options for half the price, but shipping becomes more complicated if you are using multiple shippers vs. just UPS or FEDEX. USPS can give some killer rates on this kind of package, but no tracking number.

Still way too much to send a hat.

I got one of the "inked" shirts. It's an Anvil shirt which is not a super heavy shirt, but has a fine weave and a nice soft feel. Pretty tough to justify shipping if you just wanted one shirt, but if you want a few items it is more palatable.

again do not buy it thinking it will float your keys...

They are made of high quality solid braid polypropylene. These lines are UV protected to prevent fading, mildew, and rot and are also resistant to oils, grease, and saltwater.
