you do not need anything special to start wakeboarding. just do it.

I had an 06' 197 out this year, we had it pretty pigged out but you wouldnt need that much weight to make a decent wake. I'd start with a single fat sac in the back (600-750lbs) and work your way up from there. We ran 800lbs behind the motor, and 350lbs on either side of the engine plus 2 people.

A 197 is designed for 3 event skiing, you'll never get as big a wake out of it as you would from some of the bigger wakeboard boats, that being said I could land all my tricks behind a 197 and when I started riding 190's were all anybody had.

You do need to be careful when heavily weighting a 197, the blower vents are below the rubrail on the back and it's possible to get water in them with a heavily loaded boat. Be careful, slightly turn the boat when you let off the throttle and you'll be good to go.
