hey guys quick question.. what is the difference between a street holley carb and a marine holley carb?? thanks josh

All Holley Marine Carburetors (http://www.holley.com/categories.asp?division=Holley) are designed to meet Coast Guard specifications. A marine Carburetors (http://www.holley.com/categories.asp?division=Holley) fuel metering system is calibrated to compensate for unique engine loads found on boats. The J–style vent tubes direct spilt fuel/fumes back into the carburetor for safe operation while on rough waters.

Installation Notes
Marine Carburetors (http://www.holley.com/categories.asp?division=Holley) should never be used on street applications and visa versa.

It's not only the J-vents, calibration and some seals are different too.

Shaft seals are the other difference. Sure, you can put the J vents on the automotive carb, and you can tune it to run properly (thats what is on mine now but a marine version is going on in the spring) if you know your way around a Holley.

The two big differences are: 1) You may start your boat on fire with a non-marine carb, and 2) Your insurance company will not give you a penny when they find out you have a non-marine carb, even if it didn't start the fire.

This is not the place to save $200. Spend it here and cut a different corner.

Glad to know about this now. I was going to put a 650 holly (auto) carb on my 351. But I guess I will getting a marine one and be safe rather than sorry. That was after I found out that my marine carb was wasted from setting with out out gas in it for years. It was all pitted and the micro fine pin holes are all pluged so it is going to be set aside.

That carb should be rebuild-able. It probably just needs to go into a bucket of carb cleaner with an agitator, then cleaned out really well.

Otherwise if you do a little searching you can find a decent price online for the marine Holley 4160. There were also a few threads on here a while ago about rebuilt carbs available online.
