Just stumbled on this picture and saw the hose valve at the top, front of the engine. It looks like he is trying to shut off the water for some reason....

Anyone know why?

That looks suspiciously close to where the hot water hose takes off for the heater. Some people put a valve there to shut off water to teh heater.

That is a shutoff for the heater hose going to the heater core under the dash for the heater system. Most people shut if off in the summer so as to not flow water thru the heater core unnecessarilly. With it shut off, the engine will sort of siphon all the water out of the heater system. I have the same setup on my 05 X-10 with the MCX engine. If you winterize, you will need to also flush these hoses with rv antifreeze.
