Anyone know what type of ATF you should use in your transmission if you're going to refill it with ATF instead of 15W40. Specifically...does Mercon, DexronIII, etc matter at all??? Thanks for any input.

Dexron II, III or IV is fine - whichever you can find. Mercon would be fine too, as would 15W40 and a wide variety of other oils, I'm sure. Indmar recommends ATF for your gear-reduction V-drive, unless you have rattling at idle and are annoyed by it, in which case they recommend 15W40.

Are any other changes required when converting from ATF to 15-40oil in the transmission???
Flushing, changing seals, etc???

Nah. Get it as empty as you can, then refill with the oil of your choice. If you're nervous about that, change the oil again after a few hours.

Most of the problems with transmission oils relate to those in automobiles, which use torque converters. These Hurth trannies are pretty simple by comparison, hence the wider range of acceptable lubricants.

Make sure your transmission falls into the category prescribed by Indmar in the service bulletin (attached below) before switching over to 15W40.
