View Full Version : draining the block

My first time winterization my x10, and wondering if draining the block is enough protection or should I run antifreeze though it? I drained the block and removed most of the hoses. I feel pretty save with this but other friends are telling me I have to run antifreeze.

Thanks Ed

Some different opinions on this.

I drain everything like you did, but then I re-install all of the drain plugs/hoses and draw in 3 gallons of -60 anti-freeze (non toxic) just to make sure there are no pockets of water anywhere.

Never had a problem doing it this way. You're in a colder area so you may want to use -100 non-toxic AF.

Remove the raw water hose from the thru hull pickup, stick it in a 5 gal. bucket with 50/50 (usually good to -20 F) mix of antifreeze and water, crank and run the engine till the bucket is about dry and the mixture is coming out of the exhaust. If your inventive, you can collect the mix coming out of the exhaust and reuse it next year.

don't forget to fog the engine while your sucking anti-freeze!!!
