I have a 1999 Maristar 210VRS. The prop shaft apparently came uncoupled while cruising and slammed forward, grinding almost completely through the fuel tank. Does this sound plausible, and has anyone ever seen this before? What v-drive tranny this boat has? ZF Hurth? Is there a service manual available online for the v-drive? I'm attaching a photo of the NEAR-TRAGIC damage to the fuel tank.

Ouch! My boat is identical to yours, so I'm feeling the pain here.

I don't think you need to worry about the transmission; if the prop shaft did that damage, it's all due to external components. The Prop shaft bolts onto the transmission on the fuel tank side; if the four bolts there broke, I think you'd see what you've got there. That wouldn't involve any tranny work.

Did the bolts shear or just come undone?

I haven't seen the bolts, but I assumed they sheared because we didn't have any noise or vibration warning us that something was going on. I'll find out.
