I have a tandem axle trailer for my '94 205 & put maybe 1000 miles on it a year at most. This winter I actually looked at the tires to see how the tread was wearing..... first time for everything. Anyway, the front, left tire is shot. It's worn badly on the inside. So bad that the shape of the tread is messed up.
So last Thursday I was at the tire shop having new BFGs installed on the Dakota. I mentioned this to the guy at the counter & he said that the trailer axle could be bent. I've never heard of the axle actually bending..... breaking or falling apart at speed, yes.... but not bending. So I pulled the tire off on Sat. & looked at the axle. Nothing terribly bad that I noticed. So I guess I'm looking for a trailer shop to check it out after I get another tire on it.
Anyone ever heard of this? Of the 4 tires on the trailer, only the front left tire wore like this. The others look great.

Yea, I question that myself, Jeremy. Considering how little I use the trailer, I guess it's pretty good.

Do you back the trailer in to your garage or some ware else on a consistent basis that might create a “scuffing situation” on that one tire??

Hmmmm, I used to back the trailer up & make a hard right into the parking space. Did that for about 2 years, probably 20 or 30 times total.

Now I have a straight shot.

On a tandem trailer on a sharp turn one tire pivots that may wear it funny

This could be a long shot but if the brake on that wheel is grabbing, it would cause extra wear. If it has been going on over time, it wouldn't have to be to the point of locking the wheel up......you'd probl'y notice the smoke and squeeling sound :D

I would never have thought that making that sharp turn backing into the parking space would have made the tire wear like that. I noticed on numerous occasions the tires slipping & scuffing into place. But to actually wear like that?
Anyway, after the new tire, I guess I should be looking at the brakes & bearings to make sure there isn't any other bizarre wear going on.

My front right tire is worn on the outside just like you describe. Pressure was good so I dismissed that. The other three look perfect. Not sure of the problem either.
