I just upgraded from a '90 TriStar 190 to a 2003 X-10 with 180 hours. The new boat needs some MC owner TLC, but we are getting there. Found a valve cover gasket pinched half under the cover - very likely source of the oil in the bilge.
Can anyone tell me how to identify the engine to the auto parts house? Spark arrester cover is round with decal "Predator 310 HP 5.7 EFI Vortec GM". Heads have casting no. 10239906 and a GM logo, so I can't believe this is not a GM automotive head and valve cover. Valve cover is stamped steel with no ID except the decal cautioning to use only MC oil. All of the gaskets I found for Chevrolet 5.7 Vortec engines are too short.

Try a 1995 - 1996 GM 5.7 from a pickup. The 906 heads are the early castings for the Vortec change. The combustion chamber is heart shaped and better at turning dead dinosaurs into pure fun. The new valve cover gaskets are going to be a bit tight but should still be easy to set into the recess in the valve cover.

Good Luck

Thanks,
I'll try the parts house again tomorrow. The short ones I looked at today were 99 Chevy pickup I think - will try an earlier model.
