The throttle was jamed to far causeing the transmissoin not to go into neutral or reverse. Would start and run in gear. Went for a few hours pulling after that. Took it in to local dealer /shop they pulled the transmisson and took it to a trans only shop. They come back and tell me it ran out of fluild and burned up. $1500 just for the rebuild. Does anyone know if thats a good price and if it was burned up why would it keep running for hours fine just stuck in gear. please any reply would help. I will get the model of tranny. I know its a stout one for the LT1.

I would go inspect your old transmission right now. If it really burned up your own nose will tell you so. What you described sounds more like the apply piston for the forward clutch pack did not release for some reason. $1500 sounds like they are just gonna sell you a rebuilt trans and call it a done deal. It may be easier that way...

Depending on what transmission you have you might be able to save yourself a little money by doing it yourself......

I'd also get another quote from another transmission shop, preferably not a large chain type that typically overcharges IMO. All the parts needed for a rebuild can be found on that site as well.

I think even the most expensive NEW transmission at skidim is less then $1500 and this guy wants $1500 to rebuild yours?

If there are no hard parts that have gone bad you can rebuild them for under $300 bucks. About 5 years ago I bought a complete rebuild kit for less then $100 and rebuild the tranny myself.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but do you mind emailing me that manual. I am pm'ing you my email addy. I will probably do this over the winter, it has been slipping in reverse for a couple years and getting worse every year(when pulling off the beach), and just a couple weeks ago it slipped pulling a skier up... plus it leaks terribly.

Well, I probably find a place to host the file and let people download it. It's 7 megs so that would make for a pretty large email. I'll let you know when the file goes up.
